Last year during our visit to Provence we stayed at the most wonderful Airbnb (link here). The main house and the guest house were situated in a working vineyard and fresh lavender fields. Our hosts were as wonderful as the setting itself. And as a parting gift, they us gave a bottle of wine from their vineyard and a bottle of lavender oil from their fields.
I love the smell of lavender in general. It always reminds me of France. In addition to loving the smell, I also find it soothing and relaxing and I always have a bottle of lavender spray around the house to use at anytime I want to freshen up a room.
You can buy lavender spray online or in some boutique-type shops. However, I prefer to just make my own – especially since I have a bottle of pure lavender essential oil from our Airbnb hosts’ fields.
What is lavender room spray good for?
I use lavender room spray to refresh any room in the house. I even use it in my car. Just a quick spritz or two, and it instantly freshens any space. The scent and fragrance of lavender is so fresh and calming.
Small bottles of lavender room spray also make lovely gifts, party favors, or parting gifts. We made rosemary room spray with clay tags for this causal summer dinner party.
There are also a few practical benefits to lavender spray. It’s known to repel flies and insects and can be used as a natural repellent for flies in your house.
How Else Can You Use It?
As a Linen Spray
As part of my evening routine, I love to spray my pillowcases with lavender room spray.
Bath and Hand Towels
There is always something so lovely about spritzing hand or bath towels with lavender.
Wool Dryer Balls
You can use lavender room spray on wool dryer balls and put them in the dryer with your sheets or toss one into your gym bag to keep it smelling nice and fresh!
What is the Best Lavender Essential Oil to Use?
It’s important to use 100% therapeutic-grade essential oils. When I make my room spray, I use the lavender oil our hosts gave us. However, I’ve also used essential oils from Young Living. You can use my link to buy here.
Here are the ingredients for the formula I use for making a non-aerosol bottle of lavender room spray:

Make Room Sprays as a Party Favors
Whenever I have friends over, I love to add a little party favor on the table or as a parting gift. What better gift to give your friends than something they can use and enjoy than a small bottle of lavender room spray?
Make Simple Homemade Labels
Using mailing stickers, I made simple labels with a marker and a little watercolor paint. I added diffuser clay tags that I had from this post on Valentine’s Day. I add a drop or two of lavender essential oils to the clay tag, the scent lasting for hours. Read more about making clay diffuser tags in this post.
Lavender Sachets – Shop Most Lovely Things
We love lavender as a room spray and sachets! We have beautifully made lavender sachets in the shop. Each bag is filled with lavender buds from Provence and tied with kitchen twine. We purchased the lavender at a market in St. Remy last fall. Gently massage the bag so the lavender oils will permeate the linen, releasing a lovely scent.

Tried this recipe. Absolutely my favorite as far as mixtures of ingredients other than the oils and the order of mixing. Seems to last longer and have a deeper scent. I now use this recipe moisture will all my room spray mixes.

I love lavender room spray. I make my own as well. I use it on my sheets and towels. I spray my clothes with it before ironing (which I iron very little). I am sure yours is far superior to mind so I am saving this recipe!

Annie,
Love your hand sewn sachets. I am not a good sewer so I purchase pre-made bags and either paint or stamp the bag and then fill it with lavender.
Lavender is such a versitile herb to make things with. Last year I made bath salts and sachets. This yearI think I will try your recipe for room spray!
Have a wonderful week Annie.
