I’m joining a few friends today to talk about spring fashion. When I think of spring fashion, I always think of trench coats—not just trench coats, but the Sézane Clyde Trench in Paris. Paris is always going to be the place I think about when it comes to any city in the spring. Today, it’s all about how to style a trench coat like a Parisian.
What to wear in the springtime will always include a little French girl style. My wardrobe is small but has a few basics, like the Clyde Trench from Sézane. Along with a few pieces pulled from my minimal closet, we have some French styles for spring.
Let’s talk about the outfits I pulled together with my Sézane trench:
Look One: Jeans, red ballet flats, stripes, and a wool sweater
There’s nothing more French than stripes. I love this stripe tee from Kule. It’s a heavy-weight cotton long-sleeve tee that I wear year-round. You can see it in this post when I wore it all over France in the summer.
It’s cold in the spring in Paris and New York, so I’m layering the Kule long-sleeve tee under a gray cashmere cardigan from Quince. Both are a staple in my wardrobe.
I added a pair of red ballet flats, but I also would wear this look with Sambas in black and white or red suede Gazelle sneakers.
Look Two: A floral midi dress and oxfords
The Clyde trench is the perfect length to wear over a floral midi dress or skirt with oxfords. I love the check lining that seems so fitting to pair with oxfords for a menswear look.
I love this midi dress from Never a Wallflower. It’s flowy, and the sleeves are 3/4. I would consider wearing oxfords with tights under my camel trench if it were colder.
Look Three: Sambas, polo style sweater and jeans
Warm layers with a cashmere polo-style sweater and cashmere socks from Garnet Hill. Many days in the spring feel more like winter, but I am ready to shed my heavy coat and wear a trench. The best way to do that and still feel warm is to add layers of cashmere, including socks!
I may add a tissue turtleneck under a cashmere sweater, depending on the temperature. A thin-weight turtleneck is one piece of clothing that I wear about nine out of 12 months. My favorites are from J.Crew. They are on sale now at the end of the season!
Look Four: Linen skirt, shirt, oversized sweater and loafers
This two-piece dress, skirt, and shirt from Eileen Fisher is a classic wardrobe essential that fits my personal style perfectly. It is worn with sandals or sneakers in the summer and layered with an oversized sweater, a trench, and loafers in spring.
I love how versatile this puckered linen skirt with pockets is for every day. The elastic waist makes it easy to wear, and the fabric is perfect for spring, summer, and fall.
Look Five: Classic trousers and a shirt
I have these pants in black, navy (or indigo), and sandalwood, a gold color. They are the perfect pants for dressing up with a ruffle shirt from Alex Mill and a loafer like this one. Or I can wear it with a T-shirt and a pair of flat sandals. So versatile! Wearing them with the trench is a little dressed-up daytime look perfect for spring. You can’t go wrong with adding a scarf for a more Parisian style or look. Well, maybe add some big sunglasses!
The trench coat season, like spring, is short, so I wear it often!

What a clever post Annie! I may need to drag out my trench so I can get the Annie look! It seems like here we go from winter to Summer so my trench stays in the closet most of the time. Great looks!

wow… I love your style. You would look like a local in Paris.
I made an alert for when the trench is back.
