A new sponge that will change the way you clean!
Back again with another round of Sunday Favorites with Cindy and Mary Ann! Each week we try to find things that not only we love, but that you will love too! A new sponge that will change the way you clean! These sponges are top of the list! I had a phone conversation and then exchanged several texts and emails with the founder of Scrub & Throw, Catherine and I could not be more excited to share this product with you today as one of my favorites!

Scrub & Throw

You guys know that I am always talking about Thieves Household Cleaner. It’s safe for you, your family, and the environment! But, what about the sponges we’re using!? Seriously, all the changes I’ve made over the last two years since I began using essential oils and Thieves, and never once had I thought about my sponge. Well, I think about it, but then nothing. I still use the same icky sponge that’s full of germs and God knows what!! Did you know that sponges can contain more active bacteria than anywhere in your house, including the toilet!?
Scrub & Throw is a whole new way to clean!
What is it exactly?
A one-day scrub sponge that you use for a day and then toss. It’s 100% biodegradable. Everyone knows that sponges are disgusting and can harbor dangerous bacteria and pathogens and yet we clean our dishes, counters, table, high chair trays with these sponges. This is why I’m so excited about Scrub & Throw!
“We simply wanted a scrub sponge that could do the same job as our traditional scrub sponge, create zero waste, and be thrown away at the end of each day.” —Catherine, founder of Scrub & Throw
First, let’s talk about what it’s not…
This is important, because even if you think you are buying an environmentally safe sponge, you may not have all the facts. Many are made with polyester and foam and other products that end up in landfills or micro plastics that wash down the drain and end up in the ocean.
Scrub & Throw is made of loofah
Scrub & Throws are made of loofah, which I learned today from Catherine, is a vegetable. Did you know loofah is a vegetable? It looks like a giant cucumber. Scrub & Throw sponges act like your regular sponge, except that they will biodegrade in about 30 days!
How do you order Scrub & Throw?
So easy! Your 30 day supply comes in a small 3″ square box. Each sponge will expand when exposed to water. You can order a single box, or you can save 20% and subscribe to a monthly subscription. They are surprisingly affordable! Not only are you cleaning with a clean germ-free sponge, but you are helping the environment too! It’s just one more little step we can all take and feel really good about!

1-ingredient Banana Ice Cream

When I saw my friend Karen post this, I knew I had to try it! Then she sent me the “recipe” from The NY Times and I still couldn’t believe you could make a rich-tasting dessert with basically one ingredient. I did add a little almond milk, but that’s it! Top it with whatever you have on hand. I happened to have a little bag of Biscoff cookie crumbles from my frozen dessert post this week. If you didn’t catch that, here’s a link!
PrintThe NY Times 1-ingredient ice cream
A creamy delicious treat!
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 5 minutes
- Yield: 3 1x
Ingredients
- 4 bananas sliced into 2–3” pieces, frozen
- 1/4 cup almond milk
Instructions
Put frozen bananas and almond milk in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the blade attachment and blend until very smooth. It takes a bit of time, be patient and a little more milk as needed to get the consistency you want.
Notes
You could also use a high-powered blender.
Have you seen the collaboration with Gap at Walmart?
I love when stores collaborate, but I will say, I was a little surprised when I saw The Gap at Walmart. I love these cups and plates. Perfect for Patrick’s post-college apartment.
Have you tried dry brushing?
I have been curious about the benefits of dry brushing for a while and then I saw this article in mbg this week and it convinced me to try it. I bought this brush! Is this part of your self-care routine? I’m so curious if this is one of those things more people are doing than I realize!

@the_shopkeepers – My friend told me about this account. I love small shops and storefronts and this account shares the best! I have a Pinterest board with shops, cafes & hotels too!
Honestly I thought you were pulling my leg about loofahs being a vegetable then I watched a video on YouTube with a Mr. Pauls who grows them with his wife. Incredible! I learned something new today. Wish I could clean with Thieves but I can not handle citrus scented cleaners at all– no lemon, no orange, no grapefruit and Lavender scented items equals a migraine for me.
Dry brushing isn’t a thing for me. My skin is really sensitive to textures kinda like my nose is to smells. So you’re not alone, Annie, I haven’t been doing it at all. Happy Sunday!
Hi Mimi, Have you ever tried Thieves? It smells amazing and it’s plant-based. I wonder if the citrus and lavender scents that give you a migraine are from the fragrance? Thieves is scented only from natural ingredients. I used to get headaches almost every day and ever since I stopped using anything with fragrance, no more headaches! I would love to send you a sample!
LOVELY!
I WILL TRY THAT ICE CREAM AS I AM AN ALMOND MILK FAN!
