A Visit to Terrain at Styer’s in Glen Mills, PA

A bench at Terrain in Styers, PA is filled with spring plants in front of a large window.

This week for Sunday favorites, I’m sharing our visit to Terrain at Styer’s in Glen Mills, PA. I often shop at the Terrain store in Westport, CT, 10 minutes from our home, but seeing the original location has always been on my wish list! It did not disappoint.

The Garden Cafe in Devon, PA

Philadelphia is only about a three-hour drive from where we live. We left at 9 a.m. and arrived in time to have lunch at the cafe. Later, I met up with the girls from Terrain marketing at the Garden Cafe in Devon, PA. Both stores are gorgeous, but today, I will show you a few favorites from Styer’s.

Since it was late February, the plant tables were empty. They did have pansies and hellebores, which are my favorites for spring! There was still plenty of inspiration.

The Mushroom House

The outside of the Mushroom House at the Terrain store in Styers, PA.

Did you know the Keystone State is the mushroom capital of the world? I had no idea, but that’s why Terrain at Styer’s has a mushroom house. Over half the mushrooms grown in the United States are from Kennet Square, just 10 miles from Glen Mills. I might need to come back when mushrooms are in season.

Pots and Planters

I have several indoor and outdoor pots and planters from Terrain—you could say I collect them. The Bergs’ pots are so beautiful, and I love the subtle differences in design. I use them outdoors in warmer weather, and then when it gets too cold for small plants outside, I bring them inside and use them on the table with vintage plates as saucers. You can see them in this post. Check out this new style. I may need to add it to my growing collection of Bergs’ pottery.

Much less expensive, but still earthy and rustic are the earth fired clay pots. I made simple DIY Spring Candleholders using small earth fired clay pots, foraged birch branches, and twisty tapers. You can read that post here.

Setting the spring table

Last year, our Easter table was set with the Floral Bunches plates and pink plaid linen napkins. I love them just as much this year. They’ve added a few serving pieces, and I especially love the new serving board and tray. You can see our Easter table in this post.

Terrain is my favorite place to buy gifts.

A graphic shows many of the gift ideas for sale inside the Terrain store.

Flower Pot Bread Kit & Butter Mix-Ins // Felt Basket // Felt Critters // Blooming Tea // Carrot or Asparaugus Beeswax Taper Candles // Ceramic Jar Candle // Big Heart Teas // Floral Stoneware Mugs // Ruffled Glass Votive Holders // Delft Bird Dish Towel // Tea Towel Set

Inspiration for a fire pit refresh

Our fire-pit area was featured in the Better Homes & Garden December 2022 issue (In Her Nature) and in Country Home December 2024 (A Natural Touch). After our visit to Terrain, I have a few ideas on how I would like to refresh this area at the side of our black garage.

We would replace the wood window box with a 30″ Zinc Hayrack and add a pair of the Round Zinc Hayracks on the side of the garage.

These Teak + Wicker Scissor Chairs are very comfortable and look great with this round fire pit bowl. Terrain has several stools that would work as drink tables. Some can also be used as seating, like this teak root stool. And how cute are the Marshmallow Twig Roasting Sticks? They would make a great gift for making sweet or savory s’mores.

A few more Sunday favorites

Outfit of the Week – The Clyde Trench from Sézane

The weather is still quite chilly in March, but you’re over wearing your big heavy coat. So I’m layering my Clyde Trench from Sézane with a Uniqlo puffy vest (no longer available, but it seems they bring them back every fall/winter). They are great for layering under any coat or jacket.

I’m wearing a Mongolian Cashmere Fisherman Crewneck Sweater from Quince. It’s such a great sweater and only $99. It looks and feels just like the Jenni Kayne fisherman sweater for $395. I love my Charlotte Loafers.

The jeans are Bella Stretch Wide Leg from Quince. They are not too wide and so comfortable—and only $50!

Arianna Belle Custom Pillow Shop

I just learned that Arianna is closing her custom pillow shop this summer. Her pillows are beautifully made. She will continue taking custom orders for the next few weeks and then sell her current inventory at a discounted price. We worked with Arianna and her team to make pillows for our living room. You can read that post here. Make sure to check out her shop—Arianna Belle Custom Pillow Shop.

What I’m reading this week:

I get most of my reading recommendations from Read Receipts, the Substack Newsletter, and Instagram from my daughter Madeline and two friends. Kelsey from high school in Dana Point (who now lives in Brooklyn) and Barb, a friend from Bucknell (who also lives in the city).

I find that my reading preferences align most closely with Barb. I don’t read nearly as much as these girls, but I always read at least one book from Barb’s list. This time it was The Wedding People. Have you read it?

  5. Annie,
How fun that you were able to visit both Terrain locations in the Philadelphia area. I am fortunate to live less than an hour from both locations and they are the destination of choice for lunch with friends and shopping for gifts or inspiration. I love the ideas you shared in this post and I will picking up the new style Berg pots on my next visit. Oh! But which color to choose?!?

    1. HI Annemarie! What a lovely place to meet friends for both a wander through the store and for lunch! Terrain is a true destination! And those Berg pots are so beautiful in either color! For some reason I started with the more gray/brown color years ago and just stuck to the same color. But I love the warm terracotta color too!
