For today’s post, I’m sharing how to make paper doily snowflakes instead of paper bag snowflakes or stars. They are made very similar to paper bag snowflakes, but maybe even more magical.
What you will need to make a paper doily star
- Paper doilies (Six for each snowflake, all the same size)
- Hot glue (or glue sticks)
- Twine or wire to hang
How to make them
- Take six doilies (all the same size) and fold them in half; crease the doilies.
- Then open and, with the crease perpendicular to you, fold in each side so they meet in the middle.
- Then fold up, like making a little pocket or packet, and repeat until you’ve folded all six this way.
- Then, take the packets, and using a glue stick, glue the two sides of the inside of the packet together, one by one, until you’ve done all six.
- Now, take one of the packets and make a T with a glue stick. Stack the next packet on top, and repeat until all six are glued together.
- Open, and voila, a paper doily snowflake!
Where to find paper doilies
You can usually find paper doilies in the kitchen tools section of your local grocery store. They typically come in packages of different sizes of doilies. They may also have them at your local dollar store or Amazon.
This package of doilies has 150 in three sizes for around $7. Or this package of 120, in 6 sizes, 20 of each.
Can kids make paper doily snowflakes?
Yes! Kids can make paper doily snowflakes! Unlike paper bag snowflakes, which require hot glue, paper doilies can be glued together with a glue stick, and there’s no cutting!
Hang them in a window to catch the light…
or hang anywhere for a simple holiday or winter decoration.
