Step-by-step instructions to make cinnamon clay candle holders or ornaments

- Mix equal amounts of ground cinnamon and apple sauce. I used one cup of cinnamon and one cup of apple sauce. You can mix by hand or use a stand mixer. Make sure to place a damp tea towel over the mixer before starting the mixer to avoid having a cloud of cinnamon dust in the air!
- Dust the insides of the molds with cinnamon powder to prevent the clay from sticking.
- Fill the mold, press, level off, then pop the clay out and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Insert a thin taper candle or a drinking straw to make the hole, then remove to allow it to dry.
- For thicker ornaments or candleholders, allow to air dry at room temperature for a couple of days or longer, or bake at 200º for about an hour. Be careful not to bake too long. (Air drying is the preferred drying process to avoid cracks.)
- Store any leftover clay in an airtight container.

What we love about these candle holders

Using the copper molds, they have a rustic charm, but other shapes could take on a more modern, equally charming style. You can also shape them like an orb (with a flat bottom) or any shape to make a candle holder.
You can also make Christmas tree ornaments for holiday decor. Use cookie cutters for shapes, or make your own. Make sure to make a hole with a pretty ribbon to hang on the tree.
Handmade ornaments and candleholders smell amazing and are easy to make. Kids can make applesauce cinnamon ornaments, too! This is a Christmas craft where the whole family can get involved!
You can use essential oils like Cinnamon Bark or Christmas Spirit once the natural fragrance fades.
