Home Tour + Sunday Favorites

I thought for Sunday favorites with Mary Ann and Cindy, I would share a home tour of our current home in Coastal Connecticut, just an hour from New York City. It’s located in a little beach enclave of mostly smaller homes built around 1920. Our home was built in 1922 and is just steps from the Long Island Sound. We can paddleboard, swim, and it’s a great neighborhood for walking and biking.
Homes have front porches where, in the summer, everyone is out enjoying their coffee. Our association hosts block parties all summer, with a lobster bake at the end. There’s even a house that hosts movie night in their front yard. They set up a big screen wth a projector, and everyone just brings their own beach chairs and a picnic. Last year’s movie was My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Living room & entryway

Our living room is long and narrow, so we built a corner bench to use with our Saarinen table. The entry way in this type of home is not exactly its own space. We sort of created an entry by adding coat hooks, a bench, and a mirror with a small shelf below.
Kitchen & dining room

The kitchen and dining room are basically one room. We removed an odd built-in counter and created a coffee bar with open shelving in the middle. It’s perfect for entertaining. You can see our coffee bar at Christmas in this post.

Small studio/office

My small studio/office is in the back of the house. Brent built a small custom desk in one corner. I have one of our Barcelona chairs with a small stool. The chest has also been repurposed and is great for craft supply storage. I keep the top clear so I can work on it as needed.
Office storage + inspiration board

In the opposite corner is a small Ikea shelf that holds all of my supplies I am using for my book! It’s a lot of stuff, but I need all the jars, boxes, and ribbons for creating Made with Love – 100 Gifts From the Kitchen. Coming August 2027!
Small laundry room + back porch

The laundry room/mudroom is small, but we have made it quite efficient. A stacked washer/dryer and a bar hung above storage are concealed with a curtain. In every laundry room, I have made sure we have space for a bar to hang wet clothes. It’s a simple thing, but it works beautifully. Outside the laundry room is a small back porch. We added hooks around the edge to hang clothing to dry or just to freshen up in the air.

I love your global, modern, fresh, vintage style!
Amazing house! Love your eclectic style! Really enjoy seeing older homes… we live in Tucson our hose was built in 1946. Would never want to live in a new build! Thanks for sharing!
Danielle,
Older homes, even with their quirkiness, have so much over a new build. I love Arizona! We used to live in Phoenix when we were first married. And we lived in an older home! Thanks for reading AND taking time to comment!
Annie
You’ve got style up the kazoo! Love it all.
YOU, Sandra, are the best! Seriously! xx
Annie! A home tour … what a treat. And how lovely to live in such a charming – and fun – neighborhood. I love older homes, and yours oozes with charm, plus you’ve taken in to another level with your creativity using every inch of space with intention. As a homebody, I’d never set foot outside such a warm and inviting space. xo
Juliet! Thank you! Isn’t being a homebody the most underrated pleasure? I’m so excited for your new home! I hope I get a tour IRL someday!
I agree with Juliet! Your home is charming and very inviting! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Sydney! Thank you so much for stopping by AND taking the time to comment! So nice of you!
Hi Annie,
After glimpses of your 1920’s home throughout the years, it’s a delight to spend time lingering over your extensive tour. Every nook and cranny is creatively inspired as well as welcoming from the minute you open the door.
Congratulations on your book! May it be a joy as you continue to create in your small space den.
Hugs from Mercer Island,
Diney
Hi Diney! Thank you so much for your kind words! It means so much! I am very excited (and grateful) about the book! I’ve been buying a few jars in France that I can use too! xx
Hi Annie,
Thank you for the home tour, what a beautiful house!! I love the light inside and the sense of space. Just a lovely home full of character. Those gorgeous grey stones all stacked up by the pantry boxes. Heavenly!
Thank so much for your kind words Francesca! I think my current house has the best light of any home we’ve owned. Plants do so well!
