Puff Pastry Apple Roses with Brown Butter, Sugar, and Cinnamon

This was a last-minute recipe we tried. We decided that puff pastry apple roses with brown butter, sugar, and cinnamon needed to be a Sunday favorite with Mary Ann and Cindy!
We are a week away from September, yet I see apple and pumpkin recipes everywhere. And I can’t say I’m mad about it! If you have an apple and a box of puff pastry in your freezer, you probably have everything you need to make them.
Ingredients for puff pastry apple roses with brown butter, sugar, and cinnamon

- Puff pastry
- Apples (I like to use Honeycrisp apples, but gala, fuji, or any other apple would work).
- Granulated sugar
- Light brown sugar
- Butter
- Cinnamon
- Powder sugar (for topping)
- Egg
- Cooking spray
Equipment
- Mini cocotte (a muffin pan muffin pan would work, too)
- Baking sheet
- Mixing bowl
- Sharp knife
- Pastry brush
Instructions

- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Generously coat each cocotte with cooking spray or butter them if you prefer.
- Add the butter to a small pot and slowly brown it, swirling or stirring frequently in the pan. This should take about 7 minutes. Set aside.
- Cut the apples into thin slices.
- Add the apples, cinnamon, and sugar to a pot on the stove and cook slowly until the sugar has melted, the juices from the apples flow, and the apples are softened. Don’t overcook the apples, as they will become mushy.
- Remove puff pastry dough from the freezer and let it thaw for a few minutes. Place a puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface on a kitchen counter and roll it out to about 1/8 inch thick and 12 x 12 inches.
- Using a pastry wheel or a pizza cutter, cut 3-inch wide puff pastry strips.
- Brush each strip of dough generously with the brown butter and sprinkle it with a layer of cinnamon sugar.
- Layer the softened apples on half of the pastry strips, ensuring the rounded part of the apple slices sits slightly above the pastry strip. Use approximately three layers of apple slices (depending on how thinly you sliced them).
- Fold the bottom half of the pastry strips over the apples and brush with egg wash.
- Starting at one end, roll the pastry strips and apples to form a rose and carefully transfer it to the cocotte or muffin tin.
- Place the puff pastry roses on a baking sheet and transfer it to the oven.
- Cook for 40 to 45 minutes or until the dough is done.
- Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve.

Staub Mini Round Cocotte Set
One of the reasons I love making individual desserts like puff pastry apple roses with brown butter, sugar, and cinnamon is that I can use my Staub mini round cocotte. Sabavi Home has many of my favorite home, kitchen, and lifestyle brands.
The Staub Ceramic 3-piece Mini Round Cocotte Set comes in four colors: white, like mine; cherry red; dark blue; and citron. I’ve used my mini pots for all kinds of things, like individually baked brie with jam and toasts, brownies, and baked lemon pudding, to name a few.
A new fragrance by REPLICA Afternoon Delight

I have a new favorite REPLICA fragrance: Afternoon Delight. The Madeleine Accord is sweet, warm, and cozy, reminding me of walking the streets of Paris on a brisk late fall day in search of a sweet little treat at an outdoor cafe. The notes of Sandalwood and Madagascar Vanilla make it the perfect fall fragrance—one that I will certainly pack for my trip to Paris next week!
A book I loved: Meet Me at the Museum by Anne Youngson
Meet Me at the Museum is a touching story about two strangers who are not happy with where their lives have taken them. They connect through writing letters and develop an unexpected friendship.
This is a relatively short book. My sister told me about it, and I immediately added it to my Audible app. I could not stop listening. Meet Me at the Museum by Anne Youngson is only six hours, and 27 minutes, Perfect for a long flight.
Wow…I would love to make that apple dessert. It would get guests out of bed if you made it in the morning too! Can’t wait to get a whiff of you and the new frangrance!! Love how you described it.
OMG that looks positively dangerous but absolutely amazing. I agree with Mary Ann guests would never want to leave if I made it!
