How to shop the Nordstrom sale for the best deals, plus my wishlist of things I’m buying this year!

I’m joining Cindy and Mary Ann to share our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale favorites.

Why is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale such a big deal?

Sales are usually after the season, but the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is fall, and winter items are on sale before the season starts. The same items that you can buy at a significant discount at the Anniversary Sale will go up in price in August when the sale is over.

First, know your status so that you know when you can start shopping.

I’ve been a cardholder since 1987, and years ago, when I was still buying “school clothes” for my kids, I spent a lot more and had earlier access. I now have “Influencer” status, meaning I can start shopping today, July 13th. “Icon” and “Ambassador” status have up to two days’ advantage, but I have always had good luck shopping on the morning of the first day I had access to influencer status. I do a few things right away once I have access at 12:01 midnight to ensure I get the things I want.

2. Start with items you know will sell out

It’s anyone’s guess what items will go fast. One item that I buy every year is the Donna Karan Cashmere Mist deodorant. Last year, I waited, even though I knew better, and it sold out. I had to order at the regular price from Sephora because I had been waiting to buy it a the sale! I keep one in my gym bag; the other will last the entire year!

3. Key Pieces that you know you need/want

If you are looking for a winter coat or jacket, sneakers, a blazer, black pants…whatever you need, make a list and think about the brands that would most likely have what you want, and then check to see what will be part of the sale.

I need to replace my workout sneaker every year, so I look to see what brand is on sale. This year On sneakers are on anniversary sale! These will go fast; over 2,400 people were viewing when I checked.

These black pants from Lafayette were on anniverary sale last year. They are a great year round pant. I wear them a lot, especaily when I travel. You can wear them with sandals, loafers to Birkenstocks or Samba Sneakers.

4. Check the Brands that you know and love

There are a few brands that I always check first to see what, if any, items will be on sale—a few of my favorites: Lafayette 148, Vince, Birkenstock, and Rag & Bone.

I was hoping they would have Boston Birkenstock Clogs, but they do have these Arizona Big Buckle Sandals in a pretty cream color. What I love is that they have a black bottom.

Cindy rocks a pair of combat boots, so when I see these from Vince, a brand I know fits me, I am going to see at least what they look like in my size. If you haven’t read Cindy’s post: How to Wear Combat Boots Over 50, check it out, and you might want to order a pair.

5. Must Haves on My Wishlist

These are all items that I buy every year, and a few wish list items like the Prada sunglasses for me and the Le Labo fragrance set for Madeline.

I’ll be shopping online, but I might take a quick trip to my local Nordstrom.

We have a store about a mile away that’s only a few years old in a new mall…if you can imagine. So I will probably have to check it out in person, like old times.
