I love to add small touches of Christmas in the kitchen. We spend so much time in the kitchen; nothing is more delightful than a few meaningful touches to make it all cozy and Christmassy. Today, I am joined by my friends Mary Ann, Cindy, and Noelani to share a little bit of our holiday decor at home.
The first thing I do when I start decorating for the holiday season is look at what I already have for a little Christmas cheer in the kitchen. And when I say kitchen, I mean the dining area and the coffee bar are included.
What are some Christmas kitchen decorations?
- Gingerbread houses, cookies, stars…anything gingerbread. I love to hang a gingerbread heart wreath because it smells so good!
- Depending on the size of your home and kitchen, add a kitchen Christmas tree or mini Christmas tree if your home is more cottage-style like ours.
- Garland – I love adding it over the kitchen window and coffee bar. (Or hot chocolate station; everyone loves a hot cocoa bar at the holidays)! I used this metal garland on the coffee bar.
- Christmas mugs- I need to find some. These sure are cute!
- A holiday centerpiece or a small vignette with jars of treats, bowls of ornaments, candles, and pine branches in old bottles.
- Bowls filled with candy canes, Christmas candy, and cookies
- Add a few small Christmas touches to open shelves or in your kitchen cabinets
- A bay leaf wreath or even a mini wreath
- Add a little holiday to the kitchen countertops
Make a Simple Centerpiece
I used this copper casserole from my shop, filled it with potting soil, and topped it off with some foraged moss, a sprig of evergreen, and a couple of pine cones. I added a few candles. This could also be an advent centerpiece.
Decorating the kitchen tree with a little unexpected holiday decor
I love a kitchen Christmas tree with all those beautiful food-related ornaments. Ours, though will go on the big tree this year with all of the collected over the years ornaments. An old-fashioned Christmas tree.
For the kitchen tree, I used mini Stroopwafels from Trader Joe’s, seed cups made into baskets (like these from Easter) with chocolates and cookies, orange slices, and mini candy canes. The bright red and white provide a little pop of color; the rest is neutral.
Christmas Kitchen Decor + the Kitchen Island
We usually keep the kitchen island clear. It’s a workspace, but it’s often set up for simple entertaining come the holidays.
We add a large tea towel spread out with a beautiful Walnut End Grain Butcher Block from Quince really warms up this metal island and makes it the perfect spot for casual gatherings.
The butcher block is the perfect backdrop for cheese and crackers. I love to use a combination of new and vintage bowls for snacks and treats.
Faux greenery or real?
For years, I insisted on using real garland in the house. But, no matter where you live, the real garland is messy. I would walk into the kitchen every morning and pick up pine needles around the sink.
We used faux cedar garland indoors this year from Terrain, and I’ll never go back to using real indoors.
I added a few sprigs of fresh eucalyptus in small bundles and tied them to the faux cedar garland. I also added these adorable ornaments and a strand of Stargazer Lights. They give off the most beautiful, warm glow. I could add some velvet ribbon in mint to blend with the eucalyptus. When I walk into the kitchen every morning, I am met with holiday cheer!
I used one faux cedar garland that I cut into two pieces that I originally used at the base of my pumpkins. (you can see that post here). I added one piece to the propagation-turned flower wall with the baby’s breath and bottle brush trees. The other piece I used in the chandelier. I hung one frosted pinecone ornament as well. It’s subtle but festive!

Where to find Christmas decorating ideas?
I have a board titled HOLIDAYS on Pinterest, and I pin to it all year long. It has a little bit of everything, but mostly simple, rustic, natural ideas that I love.

I love your Advent centerpiece. I have a copper pot like yours that I used for a plant…and that plant has been happy for months. LOVE your wall with baby’s breath. Such an inviting home, Annie.

Dear Annie,.
Because it is the heart of your home, your cheerful touches create such an inviting kitchen . Your “Annie” wonder with your gorgeous copper bowl and paperwhites in terra cotta pots, add your approachable inspiration. A favorite touch is the French towel on your island.
The package from your shop arrived two days ago. Everything is wrapped in your simple elegant style and I can hardly wait to give them to our darling daughter in law and her daughter, our granddaughter. Thank you for the care.
Happiest December,
Diney on Mercer Island

Annie,
I love all of your Christmas touches. You are so right about real garland it leaves needles everywhere. Faux embellished with real is the way to go.

It all looks lovely!

Add simple Christmas touches to your kitchen by incorporating festive dish towels, a holiday-themed table runner, and a bowl of seasonal fruits. Hang a wreath or garland for a festive feel, and use holiday mugs or plates. Small details can create a warm, festive atmosphere.
