Getting Your Bathroom Ready for Guests
Here are a few ideas for getting your bathroom ready for the holidays and guests. Whether it’s a powder bath or a full bath, you can do a few simple things to prepare your bath without renovating! We have a small bathroom on the main floor that we use as our powder bath, even though it has a shower.
I’m joining Mary Ann and Cindy for our Sunday favorites, as I do every Sunday, and on Monday, we will all be together in California!

The shower is rarely used, but it is equipped with everything a guest would need should we have an overflow of guests who need it. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash from Public Goods.
The shower has a (hideous) glass door, which I hide behind a beautiful Coyuchi shower curtain. You can see more of the black bathroom in this post.
The Essentials of Getting Your Bathroom Ready for Guests

Extra Supplies
Make sure supplies, like extra rolls of toilet paper and tissues, are easy to find. I have rolls of toilet tissue wrapped in paper in a handled basket on a large hook. We have no closed storage in this small bathroom. We use hooks, bags, and two small shelves to store guest items.
Hand Soap
A nice bottle of hand soap is a luxurious touch. My favorite hand soap and hand lotion is from Aesop.
A Small Toiletry Bag
We have a small toiletry bag with supplies like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other items that you would find in a comfort kit. Not having to ask for things makes you feel more welcome! It’s like we are trying to accommodate our guests’ needs even before they arrive!
Linens
I have a bath mat and bath towels stored inside the shower. Out of the way but easy for visitors to find. Since we don’t have a vanity for storage, we had to get a little creative.
For hand towels, I like to have a stack of paper guest towels in a holder available for guests. I also love having an assortment of crisp linen hand towels. Part decoration, and part practical for those that want to use them. I wash a stack of my favorite collected linens a few days before. I shake them to release wrinkles and then press them flat on a hard surface. I then hang them to dry, and then right before guests arrive, I layer them on the towel bar.
Trash
Make sure to have a waste bin in the bathroom, and be sure to empty it right before guests arrive.
A Few Non-Essentials, But Would Add a Nice Touch
A Mini Speaker in the Bathroom
The one thing you may not have thought about adding to the guest bath is a mini speaker. You know how you go into restrooms in some upscale restaurants or hotels, and the restrooms have music playing? Well, why not have that in your guest bath?
When we stayed at The Lost Kitchen Cabins, the bathroom was actually a pretty fancy outhouse in the woods. But, I will say that the soft music playing continuously 24/7 was a very nice touch.
There are many small Bluetooth speakers that would work, but this mini speaker from Marshall fits right in with my decor. What do you think about adding a speaker to your guest bath?
A candle, diffuser, and room spray
A lovely scent in the bathroom is a must. Diffuse essential oils or burn a candle. I like something a little woodsy.

Outfit of the Week

I found this skirt when looking for a candle at Anthropologie. It’s a collab with Marimekko. I love the pleated skirt, and it goes with everything from a jean jacket to a cashmere sweater.
Of course, I’ll wear it with oxfords, loafers, and my Adidas Sambas.
Serena & Lily SALE
Serena & Lily is having a sale, and almost everything is up to 40% off. Some items that I checked even a little more than 40% off! If you’ve had your eye on something, this is the time to buy! The Tucker chairs, like we have in black, are 50% off!
Pumpkin with Succulents

Did you see Kim’s adorable pumpkin planters where she uses cuttings from her succulents? I love this idea. It makes it so doable! Have some friends over and make a bunch, or make them and drop them off on their doorstep. Cute, either way! Kim has all the directions in her post right here!
Let’s see what Cindy & Mary Ann found this week!
I’ll be seeing them on Monday in California!
Annie that skirt is so you! And those Office of Angela Scott shoes the perfect addition. You are the perfect hostess. Who wouldn’t want to be a guest at your home!
Happy Sunday Annie!
Have a safe trip to California!
Love your tips for the bath will have to add a few to my bathrooms for the guests over the next few months.
Love Kims pumpkins!
Annie, you’re a thoughtful host and I know your guests must love a stay at your beautiful home. By the way, a speaker is a brilliant idea! xo
Annie thank you so much for sharing my pumpkins! Was so nice of you. I really love the guest bath ideas. The skirt on your outfit is darling. I’m a huge Marimekko fan. One of my goals is to get more skirts in my closet they are so versatile. Love it for travel too.
