I’m joining bloggers Mary Ann, Cindy, Janet, and Brooke with ideas for fall tablescapes you can try before Thanksgiving. What inspires you when you think about setting a pretty table for a gathering? For me it almost always starts with flowers. I prefer garden flowers (or even herbs from our kitchen garden like here) over store bought flowers. For one thing, they’re free and always in season. The colors of zinnias are every shade of pink, orange and cream like the pumpkins. Those colors are what inspired this table. The dot linen tablecloth and the stripes on the pumpkins add pattern to the mix of colors in the flowers.
The table linens are from Serena & Lily and west elm. The tassels on the napkins are just the right colors and tassels makes them fun, like zinnias. I used pink plates and clear glassware. The zinnias are in clear glass jars tied with simple twine.
Fall is the perfect time for a last dinner at the beach although this table setting would work at home too. At the end of the evening I ask everyone to take a few jars of flowers and pumpkins home with them. Clean up at the beach is quick and easy. I always make sure to get a head start with bags packed up before it gets dark. Then we can relax and enjoy the rest of the evening by candlelight.
I’m excited to see what Mary Ann, Cindy, Janet, and Brooke come up with for their fall tables. Brooke and I live in Connecticut and Mary Ann, Cindy and Janet all live in California, so there’s a bit of East Coast vs. West Coast and all different styles. So make sure you stop by everyone’s fall tables!

Janet, You’re the one that has inspired me all these years with your fashion, living simply, but beautifully and your photography skills! Let’s keep encouraging each other, okay? xo

Annie, you never disappoint! I want to come! I love the addition of the zinnias. I honestly think they are one of the most underused flowers. You have inspired me to plant some next year. I love everything about this tablescape. I wish the five of us could be sharing a glass of rose right now! Thanks so much for joining our team! Your fresh ideas are inspiring!

Wouldn’t that be so fun Cindy…if we could all get together now for a little pot luck—on a beautiful table, somewhere!? Gosh, I would love that!

I love this fresh approach with the orange and pink and tassels! How fun is this? I can’t get enough of the striped pumpkins this year with the stems. I think the growers are finally catching on that we like stems! 🙂 It’s all so pretty that now I’m thinking I’ve got to add pink in my color scheme. You always set the most welcoming table. If the pilgrim came ashore to this table they’d know immediately they were home. 🙂

Marilyn,
You’re right about those stems on pumpkins, I think they finally caught on to leave the stem! We like them! I sure would like those pretty watercolor and calligraphy placards for my table! I love your new low-calorie “Sweets to Impress” project!
