Welcome to Bookmark This, a new series we’re doing on Most Lovely Things. We love writing about food and travel, so we thought, why not start putting together travel/neighborhood guides for our favorite places? We’ll be doing “Bookmark This” in the form of blog posts and accompanied by downloadable PDFs that you can take with you anywhere.
What better way to start this series than with our favorite French cafes in New York City. We picked five different spots, which all happen to be located in Manhattan, that serve delicious French coffee and food in a charming atmosphere.
Keep reading for the five spots and for our downloadable PDF!
Buvette
42 Grove Street
West Village
Buvette has been a favorite of ours for years. The original location in the West Village is so great that we had to stop by the location in Paris during our last couple trips there. If you go for breakfast, don’t leave Buvette without a cappuccino and one of their egg toasts. For any other time of day, we love their tarte tatin more than pretty much any other dessert in NYC.
La Mercerie
Café at RW Guild
53 Howard Street
SoHo
RW Guild is a unique spot in SoHo that offers both delicious French fare and a beautifully curated collection of furniture and home goods. Browse the shop’s selection for a while before settling down for a cup of coffee at the adjoining cafe, La Mercerie.
Maman
SoHo – Tribeca – Greenpoint – NoMad- Meatpacking
Maman has five locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, but we are particularly fond of the SoHo outpost. This location includes a small cafe with coffee and baked goods, although there is a full service restaurant attached that serves breakfast and lunch. You can also browse gifts and accessories at Marché Maman, the French-inspired market next-door.
Le Coucou
138 Lafayette Street
SoHo
If you’re looking for a more upscale venue to sit down and enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee, Le Coucou is the place to be. Settle into the beautifully designed space and enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Sézane
254 Elizabeth Street
Nolita
If you’re shopping in SoHo or Nolita, you need to stop by Sézane– to shop and drink. Grab a cup of coffee and a pastry from the small cafe area and take in the chic French atmosphere. From clothing to accessories, Sézane has a stylish yet accessible collection.
Make sure to check out these posts on Sézane, Buvette, RW Guild and Maman.
