These photos are from my original post from 2010. Not much has changed. I’m still using old things, scraps of kraft paper, ribbons, and twine mixed with lots of foraging and repurposed bottles and jars. Below are a few newer advent calendars from over the years, in case you need some inspiration!

When they were young, my kids loved the advent calendar tradition. Over the years, I have really tried to get creative with new ideas on how to make them, where to display and, of course, what to put into each little bag!

Simple decorations and using items from the hardware store and office supply store have become my signature style

Re-purposing old jars and adding in lots of foraged branches, plants, pinecones, and seed pods never goes out of style

My most popular advent calendar was originally from 2010. I created it using hardware store items and a large piece of plywood that I painted using chalkboard paint. My kids loved taking turns getting little presents. I mean, if there’s one thing about the holidays that’s true for everyone is anticipation. And what’s better than counting the days with a homemade advent calendar?
