A Creative Way to Serve Burgers & Fries This Summer

Blue tablecloth, bottles with whote cosmos, tea lights in jars, silver quarter sheet pans, wood plates, red napkins.

If you plan to serve burgers this 4th of July, I have a fun and creative way to serve burgers and fries this summer. Start with the best burger recipe and create a burger bar for summer gatherings. We use a secret ingredient that makes the burgers so delicious. You start with ground chuck (80%) and then add grated onion so you just get the juice, and one other ingredient that may surprise you. Read this post to find out what ingredient I’m talking about and get the full recipe. You’ll never make burders any other way!

I’m joining a few friends for the Fourth of July table ideas. I will have links at the end of the post!

Set the table for the 4th with red, white & blue.

I used a collection of linens that I’ve used many times, but when put all together, the red, white & blue work perfectly. The linen tablecloth I used at the holidays (you can see it in this post), and now topped with an indigo table throw, and a vintage grain sack from Our French Finds, we have a fun Fourth of July table!

Everything is stored in UASHMAMA storage trays that are made of paper, but can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. They come in tons of sizes and shapes, as well as colors. I use them all over the house to organize things. Here, I’m using a Vassoio Tray to keep all the linens, glassware, and tableware in one place. It makes it easy to get organized a few days ahead.

A simple way to display flowers on the table

Again, staying with our simple theme, we used repurposed glass bottles with white cosmos and Billy Balls from the garden—a great way to display a few blooms without taking up too much table space.

What you will need for your burger bar

To create a burger bar, you need a variety of buns (I like a combination of brioche, sesame, and potato rolls) and some fun burger toppings. Cheese and both ground beef, turkey burgers, and then a plant-based option like a black bean burger.

Fun toppings include caramelized onions, red onion, crispy bacon, sharp cheddar, Swiss cheese, pepper jack cheese, grilled pineapple rings, and crisp lettuce.

You’ll also need classic toppings and burger spreads, such as a good ketchup, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, sriracha mayo, and perhaps a homemade garlic aioli.

To make your burger night a success, you’ll need a fun way to serve it all

Inspired by a local seafood restaurant in our area and one of our favorite shops in Paris, Merci, we purchased a stack of quarter sheet pans to use as serving plates. It’s practical to have them all stacked up at the beginning of the burger bar, but it’s also fun. You can place the burger and side dishes directly on the sheet pans, or you can add a small plate, such as these.

A fun way to serve French fries at your summer cookout

We used tulip cupcake liners, doubled or tripled to hold shoestring fries. You could also use them for regular crispy fries and sweet potato fries. If you are adding a salad onto the sheet pan, it helps keep the fries hot.

Add some pretty serving bowls with salad to the burger bar

We used these bowls with potato salad, pasta salads, and fruit salad.

Include a menu card

I created a simple menu on Canva. It’s easy to use their templates or create your own. It adds that unexpected extra layer that takes only a few minutes to make, and print out on cardstock.
