BEHR ULTRA SCUFF DEFENSE
When Behr Paint reached out asking if I would be interested in trying out their new BEHR ULTRA™ SCUFF DEFENSE™ Interior Extra Durable Flat Paint & Primer in One…I jumped at the chance and had the perfect project in mind. Our laundry room/mud room gets a lot of traffic and it’s one of the hardest working rooms in the house. When we first moved into the house, we painted everything white. It wasn’t long before we realized the paint on the walls where we hang gym bags, the broom and dust pan -was not holding up. It showed scratch marks on the walls from the abrasive bags and the dust pan. A space like a laundry/mud room is not a space where you want to be “careful” so when I heard about SCUFF DEFENSE, I loved the idea of trying it in a color other than white. Now we have the look we wanted all along, but with the durability we need. A flat paint that has the durability of a gloss.
BEHR ULTRA SCUFF DEFENSE can be made in any color. We selected several grays and then narrowed it down to four. We had samples of each made of the four to try on the wall. We ended up with the lightest shade, Classic Silver (PPU18-11) and are very happy with the overall look.

Laundry room/Mudroom/bathroom
This hard working room is a space that combines the laundry room, mudroom and a door to a half bath just off the kitchen. Total square footage is only about 65 square feet making this space perfect for new paint from BEHR.
SCUFF DEFENSE is a new product that is a stain-blocking paint and primer in one. The paint has a rich, flat finish that is durable while looking like it’s a beautiful flat paint. The paint went on smoothly and the coverage is amazing requiring only one coat. We are looking forward to using this paint to eventually re-paint our bedrooms that have been painted flat black and after only one year are full of scuff marks. BEHR ULTRA SCUFF DEFENSE is a great option when you want a flat paint that stays pristine.

I’m a painting contractor an usually use Sherwin Williams paint. I buy a few things at Home Depot as well so this product caught my eye. I’ve just finished a few rooms with it. Could you be specific about how it’s holding up? Like all flats it doesn’t touch up well but if it doesn’t scuff it won’t need touch up.

Hi Ken,
We used it in our laundry room and also in our pantry. It’s holding up very well! I agree that it’s hard to touch up flat paint, but I don’t think there will be a need for touch up. In the pantry, the shelves are painted with it and we did not line the shelves and it’s holding up amazingly well. I even “tried” to scuff it with a can and it just doesn’t show! Let me know if you use it, I would love to hear what a professional thinks!

How long did you wait for this to dry before putting anything on the shelves?
annie diamond says
that’s a good question! It seemed to dry pretty fast, but I did give it several days just to be sure! I don’t think that much is necessary!

Amazing! Thank you

R u sure ur a painter. Cause flat paint is the only paint that u can touch up. Huh?????????

Did you use any top coat or polycrylic over the paint? I’ve used this paint for a table and chairs and a hutch and wanted to put some sort of top coat on for gloss and for durability. Any recommendations?
annie diamond says
Hi Jessica -We did not use a top-coat. We also used it in our pantry space and I love how the shelves don’t scratch from the can. I can see with furniture, that you might want to add a coat of something like varathane?

I’ve used this product now on two jobs and so far am pretty excited about it. I tried to clean up a splatter with water after just a short time and could not remove it with water so then I used feature alchohol and it only came up with time. It’s 100% acrylic paint (I think) but at a very reasonable price.

Hi Annie! Do you mind sharing the paint you used on your kitchen cabinets? I’ve tried searching the blog and Instagram… 🙂 Happy Memorial Day! Love you home and style!

We had them painted professionally with benjamin Moore paint. I will find out exactly what type and take a photo. We found a painter that used to work for a high-end cabinet company in Greenwich, CT…so he had a lot of experience with painting kitchen cabinets. Text me 917-349-4214 and I can send you a photo of the paint can.

LOVE the new Scuff Defense paint. Had to redo one high traffic wall where the pup keeps running into. So, instead of getting the orginal behr, I got the same color in the Scuff Defense & wow! So smooth, one coat coverage, color matched perfectly & cleanup was a breezd.

How is it holding up after 3 years?

It’s holding up great! We also used it in a powder room that we painted black.
