Painted Taper Candles for the holidays!

I’m updating this post to share how we made a few handpainted candles for Valentine’s Day. It would be fun to do this for a Galentine’s Day get-together or make several and give them to your friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Who wouldn’t love to be the recipient of a pair of hand-painted tapers?

A few Supplies to Wrap them Up for Gift-Giving

Then, wrap up a pair using a few supplies, like a piece of canvas (or a little kraft paper from a paper bag). Tie them up with some ribbon and a tag. Keep reading to get the candle source from Etsy.

I’m joining a few friends to share 30 minutes or less of holiday crafts. I knew right away I had to share painted candles. Not only are they so fun to create, but they are the perfect little host gift or something to bring to a friend, a co-worker, neighbors…anyone.
Even if you’re unsure of their home decor style, a pair of hand-painted taper candles is just for one night. They are meant to be used and enjoyed. It’s a very Hygge gift!
The Supplies You Need to Make Hand-Painted Candles

- Taper candles in colors or white taper candles work, too.
- Posca paint pens
- Rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth
- Candle holder or candlesticks (to hold the candles while they dry)

How to Make Hand-Painted DIY Taper Candles
- First, take a little rubbing alcohol and “clean” the candle. Then using a soft cloth, wipe dry.
- Practice making a few simple designs on paper before painting on the candles.
- Then, once you have an idea, work around the candle with one color, allow it to dry for a minute or two, and go back and finish the design with another color.
- For the candy cane design, I used only a white paint pen and made lines in a curved candy cane shape. The design could not be simpler, yet it looks like candy canes!
- Place them in a taper candle holder for a few minutes to dry before gift-wrapping them.
- To gift wrap the candles, I use a piece of kraft paper folded to wrap around the candles. Add some ribbon and a simple tag.
Posca Paint Pens are Non-Toxic Paints
Posca paint pens are non-toxic and water-based, which makes them an excellent choice. The kind of paint is important when using them on candles.
