Make Easy DIY Hydrangea Twig Star Decorations

Make easy DIY hydrangea twig star decorations for your Fourth of July table in about 20 minutes! They are fun to make with a few friends the morning of the fourth, and then you’ll be ready to set your festive table.
Today I am joining a few friends that are so creative, and we are all sharing our Fourth of July craft projects. I will have links to each project at the end of this post!
How do you make them, and what you’re going to need:
Do you have to use hydrangea twigs?

No, absolutely not, but if you live on the east coast, there’s a good chance you have hydrangeas or access to them (maybe a neighbor), and the twigs are just bare branches that probably should have been cut last season or maybe in the fall. But I see a lot of hydrangeas with twigs just waiting to be turned into hydrangea twig star decorations!
What else could you use if you don’t have hydrangea twigs?
Any sticks, branches, or even popsicle sticks. I like a more earthy project that uses what I have available, but popsicle sticks are a good option if you don’t feel like a little foraging. If you know me, you know I love to forage for project materials, but that’s just me!
Since we are making small stars, you want to look for twigs that are fairly thin.

The supplies you’ll need to make hydrangea twig star decorations:
- Several hydrangea twigs that can be cut into five -6″ pieces for each star
- Glue gun and hot glue sticks
- Jute twine (I used red and navy jute twine and off-white macrame cord)
How do you make them?
- Gather your twigs and then cut five pieces that are all approximately 6″ long.
- First, make an upside-down “V” with two of the twigs. Using hot glue, connect the two twigs at the point.
- Then form an “A” and glue the twigs in two places.
- Then connect each side of the twigs that formed an “A.”
- Add a little red and blue jute twine for decoration or to hang.

Can kids make these?
Yes and no. Kids of all ages can help collect the twigs and arrange them by size. They will need help cutting them, and if you are using hot glue, remember it gets very HOT! They can help with the twine or ribbon and even make shapes that an adult can glue together. Hot glue dries very quickly, so that’s why I use it!
