Ideas for Decorating Every Room With the Color Brown
It’s time to get cozy; after all, it’s November. And can you think of a better way to make your home cozy than adding shades of brown to your home decor? Other than lighting (which always tops the cozy list), adding warm brown tones is the best way to make your home cozy.

No matter what you currently have in your home, there is an excellent chance that adding brown to your living space will look amazing! There are so many shades of brown, from dark browns in natural wood to light shades in natural materials. You might have crisp white slipcovers or a brown leather sofa. Either way, add brown.

Brown decor is trending thanks to designers and influencers like Amber Lewis and Caitlin Flemming. An earthy brown can be added to anything, from throw pillows to upholstery to furniture pieces.

Would you paint your walls brown?
We have white walls, but I must admit, it’s tempting to go with brown walls, at least in some rooms. I love how people now paint ceilings in dark colors or walls and ceilings. It’s so inviting.
There are so many different shades of brown. Where do you even start to find the right one? I began with Farrow & Ball. When I look at a paint deck that’s 3″ thick, my head spins. I don’t know how people narrow it down to one color from thousands. There are warm browns, rich chocolate brown, and deep chocolate brown…but Farrow & Ball narrows it down to four brown colors: mahogany, Brassica, Tanner’s Brown, and Pelt.
You can order your FREE colour card from Farrow & Ball here.
I am sure there are more than four beautiful colors of brown paint, but this is where I start when painting anything. It’s how we chose our most recent door color, lichen. Previously, we painted it India Yellow. Finding the right green or yellow would have been impossible without the help of Farrow & Ball.
What is brown’s appeal in home decor?
Brown pairs with everything. Pair brown with warm neutrals, terracotta, gray or greige, red browns, blue, sage green, crimson red, white, mustard yellow, or citron. Brown interiors are warm and inviting. And you don’t have to paint (although I sure would love to); you can add the color brown in many ways: wood furniture, leather, fabrics, rugs in different tones, lighting, art.
A few of my favorite things that are brown
I love all the natural colors of brown. Think of all the shades of brown just in dried hydrangeas in November. Acorn leaves are the most beautiful shades of light browns. When they cling to the branches at the first snowfall, you see how gorgeous various shades of brown look with white.
Art, lamps, rattan, textiles…just a few things I love in every shade of brown.

GAP Cargo Jeans
As if the above is not enough FAVORITE THINGS this week, I must mention a recent find that I have been wearing on repeat lately! Hear me out…They are the Mid-Rise Cheetah Cargo Jeans from GAP. They are a perfect fit, not too high-waisted, but just right. Loose, but not baggy. They look good with everything from a red sweater to a black blazer. On Monday, I’ll be sharing how I style them. One pair of jeans, five looks! Make sure you’re following me on Instagram @most_lovely_things
Sephora Insider Sale
With the help of an accommodating Sephora sales associate, I discovered the Makeup Forever Foundation and Concealer. I went in thinking I wanted something different, and she tested my skin using some device they have at Sephora and found the perfect product in the ideal shade. And it was not even expensive.
The Insider sale is also a good time to stock up on my favorite deodorant, Donna Karan Cashmere Mist.
For hair, I recently discovered Good Behavior 4-in-1 Prep Spray, which I can’t live without. Ever since I stopped getting my hair chemically straightened, even though I have straight hair, I needed something to smooth out my aging hair. And this is it!
All chocolately goodness! You’ve rounded up great items and I love the plates all the way from Paris…such a good team!
Those plates always remond me of you!!!!!xxx
Gorgeous post thank you Annie! Have a lovely week !
Thank you so much Francesca! I think of you every time I wear my brown sweater…like yours!
I am really embracing brown this year as well Annie. Would I paint a room brown? Maybe a powder room. Can’t wait to see your jean styling post!!
I was thinking the same thing Cindy! A powder room would be perfect in a dark brown.
We went brown in our cabin in PrescottAz. Moody and cozy combined.
Moody and cozy for a mountain cabin sounds amazing! I’ll bet it’s gorgeous!
I love the color brown! I live in a mountain log home on a ranch in Wyoming, so I have various shades of warm brown colors/materials/textures in my home decor (e.g., chocolate brown leather furnishings, medium toned log wood walls, light wood floors, etc.). Thank you for your excellent post with so many beautiful items and inspiration!
I love the color brown! In fact I have had a Pinterest board for about 6 years with all things brun~brown. I think I need a few of these brown things including the plates, brown and white napkins.
Have a great week Annie. I’ve pulled out your Thanksgiving guide that you shared last year and am ready for the holiday!
