I could not be more thrilled that wearing sneakers is so trendy right now, and I think (or hope) that it will stay that way. Today, I’m joining a few stylish friends to talk about the sneaker trend and how to style sneakers with everything.

If you know me, I never wear high heels, pointy-toe shoes, or heels of any height. I love that I can wear a pair of sneakers with everything…and everywhere in the world!
How to Style Sneakers with Everything (But Not Just Any Sneaker)
Right now, at least, you can wear sneakers with anything. Everyone everywhere is doing it. And it does make sense because sneakers are so practical, not to mention comfortable.
On the streets of Paris, men, women, and kids wearing Sambas

My favorite sneakers are Adidas Sambas for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, a basic sneaker has to be super comfortable. In New York or Paris, we often walk 10+ miles a day. There’s nothing worse than doing a lot of walking in an uncomfortable shoe. Some athletic shoes, while comfortable, may not be the footwear of choice when wanting to feel fashionable. With Adidas Sambas, you get both.
There are so many choices for sneakers that are as comfortable as they are stylish without looking frumpy.
The second most important thing about wearing a sneaker is that it must work with different styles. Especially when traveling, the right sneaker can make all the difference.
Signature Style and Wearing Sneakers
My signature style leans towards menswear, but I also love a flowy skirt or dress on occasion. The right pair of sneakers can give almost any outfit the perfect balance of mixing styles. I usually dress casually, so sneakers will almost always work. A statement sneaker like a suede Adidas Gazelle in a bright color is a great way to update an outfit and make it feel less formal.

Wearing Sneakers with a Dress or Skirt
Wearing Adidas Sambas with a midi skirt or dress can give it a different look than other footwear choices, such as boots or sandals. Wearing a pair of sneakers with a dress or skirt is nothing new, but the right pair can update the look.
Wearing Sneakers with a Suit or Oversized Blazer
I’ve been seeing this more and more: a sneaker in bright colors worn with a suit or blazer and a sweater over the shoulders. The Adidas Gazelle sneaker style is one that I see a lot of people wearing on the streets of New York and Paris, as well as on Pinterest. Inspiration for a stylish look involving sneakers is everywhere right now!

Wearing sneakers with Alex Mill jeans & a trench from Sézan
This is probably the most common casual look, but I don’t love every type of sneaker with jeans. I’ve never been a fan of high-top sneakers or slip-on sneakers. My shoe choice is a pair of Sambas. I’ve also seen many fashion content creators wearing them as a fashion statement.
There’s nothing more spring than wearing a trench coat. Pair it with jeans and sneakers and it feels pulled together, but perfect for everyday. The Clyde trench from Sézane comes in four colors. I’m wearing the ecru. I sized down as recommended on the website, and it still runs quite large.
The Perfect Pair of White Sneakers
Since I think the most comfortable sneakers are Sambas, a pair of all-white Sambas would be great for spring and summer. This core-white with magic beige Samba would be amazing with white and tan linen! Stan Smith in all-white would be another great option.
Annie, you are the samba queen! So you and on trend!! I will have to try them on some time, I am afraid they won’t work due to the bunion! I love the white and tan version.
Annie, You make the Samba look so cute with everything! I definitely have them on my wish list. Now just have to decide what color. Fun seeing all these people in Paris! Thanks for getting us together to do this. So fun.
xo
I want the trench coat and those Sambas!!! Thanks for organizing us,
Annie! Love seeing street style through your lense. Look at all those Sambas! We’ve come a long way since the days Americans were stigmatized for their sneakers. Now it’s all about sneak chic and I’m here for it. Of course, your sneak chic is top notch. So fun doing this with you! xo
Great Post!
I enjoyed seeing the Adidas Sambas shown around Europe.
I think I want to try the core white Sambas with beige. But I am eyeing the Stan Smith all-white ones too.
Last summer, I purchased a new pair of On Clouds for our trip to Italy, and then I panicked ( afraid of new shoes on a trip). So I wore my old all-white Adidas with a gold tab in the back, and they worked beautifully.
Annie! Love your recommendations for Sambas. You look so comfortably classic in Paris and inspire me to purchase a pair for myself.
Love your bouquet of the week and will be baking your pound cake with blueberries. I’ll us a 1-1 gluten free in caring for my darling daughter-in-law’s dietary needs.
Happy Easter as you celebrate with your family,

Hi Annie.
I’m trying to understand the sneaker trend and how to make it work with everything. What socks (height/color) should be worn for different outfits, colors, seasons…? I’m normally an ultra casual person, but trying to step it up a bit for my mature years (approaching 50). Thanks from a girl trying to figure out how to dress from head to toe.
Hi Leigh,
I’ve noticed that low ankle socks seem to be on trend in either white or black depending on what you are wearing.
I’m currently in Paris and I’ve been noticing a lot of women of all ages wearing them. I hope that helps. I am so glad that wearing sneakers is in style, because nothing beats the comfort!
