We decided last week that we needed a quick getaway, so what better place than Gurney’s Montauk? The beautiful, modern resort sits on a stunning waterfront property on the East End of the Hamptons. With ocean views, beach access, and a spa, Gurney’s is the perfect escape from New York City or anywhere on the East Coast. Even better, visiting in late-April meant that we avoided crowds both at the resort and in town. If only for a day or two, we felt like we had the Hamptons to ourselves.
Our room had a gorgeous view of the Atlantic, as well as a patio where we could lounge and soak up the sun. Sure, it was a bit chilly, but it’s been a long enough winter in New York that any amount of sunshine is appreciated. Can you believe this oasis is just a couple hours drive from NYC? As our favorite Hamptonite, Ina Garten, would say, “how easy is that?”
A road trip for us means loading up our favorite Steele Canvas tote bags and packing them in the car. We couldn’t help but notice that the bags looked great with the decor in our hotel room.
The Seawater Spa at Gurney’s is a must-see. The pool was a bit chilly for this time of year, but we were all over the Roman baths in the spa area. Enjoying the spa was a great way to warm up after a windy beach walk (one of our favorite activities), but we can imagine that it would also be perfect after a long day at the beach in the summer.
We also loved exploring Montauk and the neighboring towns, including Sag Harbor and East Hampton. After driving around for a bit, we discovered this Clam Bar not far from the resort. It’s the quintessential New England seafood restaurant, and we were so glad they were open.
Is there anything better than a cup of New England clam chowder and a beer to get you in the spirit for summer? And we can’t forget the classic oyster crackers.
From driving around neighborhoods to checking out plenty of local beaches, we loved our quick getaway to the Hamptons. We’re sure Gurney’s would be an amazing summer vacation destination, but there’s something particularly special about visiting in the off-season.
