Friday Favorites + Backyard Potting Area

| |

Friday Favorites {things that are black} + our backyard potting area {Behind our black garage}. A detached garage was added to our property years after our home was originally built in 1900.  It basically sits in the back of our property and is quite visible. This is why we painted it black.  If you’re going to have a garage in your backyard, you kind of have to make it look cool. Behind the garage is an area that was long forgotten for many years.  At some point there were some plantings that just needed a little attention. We edged and weeded the beds and made a half circle at the back of the garage and added pea gravel.  I found an old table that I use for a potting bench.  For the shelves we used inexpensive brackets and wood for shelves that we found after Hurricane Sandy.  It had washed up in Red Hook Brooklyn and we used some for a coat rack in our entry and this was the left over.  It keeps stacks of pots and tools organized.   The galvanized trash can holds bags of potting soil.

Last year we created a drink station in this exact spot.  It was quick and easy. We used everything we had and just converted it from potting bench to drink station.

For the drink station, we lined the shelves and table with dish towels and a table cloth so that everything stayed clean.  After the party, it went right back to being a potting area.

My Friday Favorites are all things that I’m loving that are…you guessed it, black!

These sheets from Serena & Lily are called Dipsea.  I loved them even a little more when I saw SFGirlByBay had them in her new guest room.  And they are on sale!

Serena & Lily is having a Memorial Day Sale and everything is 20% off, so now might be a good time to pick up a couple of black dip-dyed stools.  I use mine all over the house.  And Brooke does too!  I also love this black & white polk-a-dot tablecloth at Serena & Lily to use indoors or out.

These Slat Metal Outdoor Chairs from Target are pretty cool.  I ordered these the moment I saw them on Emily Henderson’s former outdoor deck in LA.  Her new patio is ahhhhh-mazing, isn’t it?

  1. Only you could turn your dirty (yours probably aren’t!!) potting shelf area into a drink station for a party. If I did that it would be covered with spiders, bird poop, and just plain dirt…only you could do it in such style

  2. Simply gorgeous! The multi -use space ideas and shop details are much appreciated. I’m inspired. 😊Heading to get that Black by Behr.
    Be well Annie!
