Create a Charming Backyard Fire Pit Area

With a bit of help and inspiration from Terrain, we created a charming backyard fire pit area. We used an old fire pit bowl we’ve had for years and our pea gravel patio. This area is small enough to make it cozy. Ambiance is everything when it comes to a firepit area.
Using a fire pit bowl is an excellent option for converting this patio back to a dining area. We have limited outdoor space in our tiny backyard, so keeping it flexible is essential. With just a few adjustments, this area can be transformed into a perfect setting for a dinner party or to enjoy conversation around the fire pit.
I’m joining a few friends to talk about easy summer entertaining, and sweet and savory s’mores around the fire pit is one of the easiest things to do, and yet, it feels special!
Furniture and accessories we used to create our cozy firepit area

- We used two folding teak + wicker scissor chairs and this teak bench (which we also use with our teak dining table).
- Carved teak stool
- Citronella candles, citronella garden sticks, and lavender citronella body spray
- Libeco linen throws
- Marshmallow twig roaster
- Trays for sweet and savory s’mores
- Small plates and napkins
Lighting
Lighting is always one of the most beautiful elements in creating a cozy space, whether indoors or outdoors. Lighting that’s too harsh or bright can ruin a charming evening. We love the Stargazer string lights.
These dandelion lights add a bit of whimsy around the landscaping. They are charged by sunlight during the day and turn on at dusk.
Candlelight is always welcome—votives, tea light holders, or lanterns.
Sweet & savory s’mores

One of the beautiful things about entertaining around a fire pit is the ease of planning and preparation. All you need are a few supplies that can be purchased well in advance.
What you’ll need for savory s’mores

- Brie bites
- Ham or prosciuto
- Fig and berry jam
- French salted butter
- Cornichons
- Dijon and grainy mustard
- Square crackers
For a savory s’more, I like to use the brie bites that can be found at the grocery store or Trader Joe’s. They come wrapped, but I like the look of everything taken out of the wrappers. I always look for square crackers that make it easier to assemble your s’more, but anything a bit larger will work. Just no bite-sized crackers!
There are many different versions of savory s’mores, but this French sandwich version is always a hit.
You can check out this post for more on savory s’mores.
What you’ll need for sweet s’mores

- Large marshmallows (I love to use the large size when I can find them).
- Bite-sized Hershey’s chocolate bars, peppermint patties, Reeces, or any of your favorite candy bars. (Bite size is perfect between a graham cracker square, and I always unwrap the candy).
- Graham crackers cut in half

Sweet & Savory S’mores Around a Fire Pit | Most Lovely Things
Summer entertaining with sweet & savory s’mores in the backyard.

This is the coziest little spot! I want to make smores with you!
I love a fire pit and this little area is so cosy! I hope you have time to enjoy it!
Thank you for sharing this cozy set up. I’ve had my eyes on those lovely chairs for awhile. Have you found them comfortable? You look tall, but I’m 5’1″ and my husband is 6’2″ so seating is always a strategical compromise. The thing I really want to know is if they are pitched as deep as an Adirondak, which is often so hard to get out of. Thanks in advance, best… Kathy, Seattle WA
Hi Kathy, I am tall, and I do think they are comfortable once you’re settled in, but they are sort of like an adirondak chair now that you mention it! Maybe not as deep, but similar. I love the look, but keep that in mind! Thanks for stopping by!
