The OG: Indigo Blue French Chore Jacket and Why You Need One

The OG: Indigo Blue French Chore Jacket and Why You Need One. I love chore coats and have worn them for years. The comfort, fit, functionality, and style, just to name a few, are what make it the perfect all-weather jacket that everyone needs.
But there is one particular chore coat that I’m especially fond of and that has become my absolute favorite. My blue French chore jacket!
Nobody made this jacket more famous than the New York Times fashion photographer, Bill Cunningham, as he rode his bike around the streets of New York and other fashion-forward cities always sporting his blue French chore coat while photographing people and fashion.
Why are French chore jackets blue?
Originally, back in the 1800s in France, the blue chore coats were the working uniform of all blue-collar workers. I have a post coming out next Wednesday on chore coats and why everyone should have at least one. So come back and see the rich history of chore coats as well as some of the new, more modern versions.
My upcoming France buying trip

Last September while in France on a buying trip for my online shop – SHOPMOSTLOVELYTHINGS. I noticed how many people were wearing the vintage blue French chore jacket – the kind that is worn, faded, and well-broken in. You could tell they were old but you could also tell they were clean and stylish.

And then one afternoon while shopping in a Paris flea market I came across a rack of vintage indigo blue French chore jackets. I immediately bought one for myself and a bunch for my shop.

After I got home I began wearing it around and I couldn’t believe how many people came up to me and asked where I had gotten it. Before I even had a chance to photograph and list the jackets in my shop, I had sold all of my inventory.
Fast forward to today and I’m preparing for my next buying trip in just a few short weeks. I’ll be buying as many chore coats as I can find and bring back and I wanted to let all of you know. Some will be well-worn and patched, others will be faded and yet some will look newish. I guess that’s the beauty of vintage, no two look alike.
If you’re interested in buying one, send me a DM on Instagram (@shopmostlovelythings) and I’ll let you know when they are available. It will be sometime around the first week of October. Once I’ve gone through the list of those who direct-messaged me, I’ll sell the remainder in my shop. I don’t know what the price will be yet or how many I’ll have so I’ll do it on a first-come, first-serve basis. I do know the sizes will be small/medium and medium/large. And the price will be reasonable.
Look for my chore coat post going live next Wednesday!

I would love one!
Wrong email! Sorry
These are amazing! Farancofile here, and also looked last summer for this. A special education teacher Through and through, these are amazing to work with this over the US look post ( and yes pre Covid). But where we are it does allow for an air of togetherness. Pretty certain you have 0 left, but, any idea of where and how to get two-four for my team?
I would like a chore coat.

Hey Annie! I’m headed to Paris next week and was looking to buy something like this there, would you mind sharing some of the places that you check out to find chore coats like this?
Hi Scott,
Well I do sell them, so I can’t give away all my secret places. But I did see quite a few at the Sunday flea market at Porte de Vanes. There’s a woman that has a spot right at the start (or the end of the flea market, depending which way you arrive) and she always has a good selection of chorre coats.
Hope that helps.
Annie
