I’ve talked about these little watercolor hearts here and here. I still love them and am calling this batch Laguna Sunset. The pink and orange makes me think of Laguna Beach. Around this time of year I am missing California terribly. Of course I always miss it a little. California is one of those places that’s hard to get out of your heart and mind.
Paint random stripes onto a piece of watercolor paper. I use watercolor paper so that it’s thick and also has a nice texture like a canvas. Then a few minutes later when the paper is dry, take your craft punch and turn it over so that you can “frame” each mini abstract painting. No two will be alike. It’s fun to see how the white space, the color and brushstrokes all come into play when you move the punch around the paper.
I made these quickly today (and I when I say quickly, I mean it took about 5 minutes). I wanted new photos to include in the post and also show you the kit that I put together for two little girls. I will make sure to see Brooke before Valentine’s Day and I know Ella and Lola and maybe even Finn will love making these. Read Brooke’s post on Small Things that add up to Great Things…I know you’ll love it. It’s so true! It doesn’t have to be a $40 candle. It can be a Bonne Maman jam jar with a votive candle and a mustard jar with a cutting from a miniature orange tree I bought last winter and it finally has oranges. It’s the little things…I have a Pinterest board called just that. Check it out right here.
Have you seen Ideal Bookshelf? You send a photo or even just a list of your favorite books and artist Jane Mount will paint your books. We had her do an original of Madeline’s favorite high school collection and then one for her college books. Now she has the perfect pair of paintings. Jane has other beautiful things like prints, pins, mugs, wrapping paper. It was so fun when this popped up on my instagram feed this afternoon!
Honey & Hen Toy Company
Have you heard about Honey & Hen Toy Company? Bri Roberts just opened her etsy shop where she makes made-to-last toys in colors that won’t hurt your eyes. She sourced the wood from Maine and creates them herself while raising girls and chasing chickens in Franklin, Tennesse. (that last part is actually her instagram bio) fyi!
One more Friday Favorite…our friend Tania from California sent us this article. The Most Beautiful Coffee Shops in Every State. We need to check out the one in Avon, CT. It’s so cute. Are you following us on our coffee instagram? You can find us at coffeeshopsofnewyork.
Have a great weekend! Stay Cozy!
