My friend Sandy of The Collected Garden knows how to make the most of a small garden. She does this beautifully and shares her ideas that inspire others to do the same.
Sandy is my top Sunday favorite this week. If you’re new to MLT, every Sunday, I join my friends Cindy and Mary Ann to share our favorite finds, and discoveries of the week!
How does Sandy make the most of her tiny garden?
Sandy grows flowers in her tiny plot (less than 700 square feet) in a New Jersey suburb just 20 miles from Manhattan. While writing this post, I texted her to ask exactly how far she was from the city. I love her response. “About 20 miles. Just googled to Buvette, 22!”
She has a very small greenhouse that allows her to start her seeds early. She also shares her seed starter packets so you can grow your own. She teaches how to plant seeds. I had no idea how many easy tips you need to know before you plant. Check my Instagram today; I’ll repost Sandy’s informative video on seed planting! If you’ve been wanting to start plants from seeds but are unsure where to start…this video will get you going!

Sandy is the most generous person! We met a few years ago, and I have learned much from her. Recently Sandy started a fun way for anyone to join her community of flower lovers by sharing their little happy posy. When I saw her doing this, I knew I would make it a Sunday favorite! So today, I’m sharing some photos from Sandy’s flower-loving community. I hope it inspires you to go out and pick a few flowers to place beside your kitchen sink, on top of a stack of books, or on your bedside table because it’s always about the little things!

2. No Sew Cafe Curtains
I love cafe curtains, and since I do not sew, I knew I had to know more when I saw these on Pinterest. While checking out her blog, I found a new Instagram account that I love! @francois_etr_moi
3. Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
If you know me, you know I don’t buy many new clothes. But when I do, I prefer to buy quality pieces that I will wear to death. These black pants fall into that category. I also buy a few things yearly from Nordstrom since I know they will be discounted for the anniversary sale. I would buy them anyway, but I wait and stock up since they are on sale.
- Irving Skinny Stretch Wool Pants by Lafayette 148 I wouldn’t say they are skinny; if I had noticed the name of the pant, I might not have even tried them on. I love the fit; it works with a loafer, boot, sneaker, and even Birkenstocks.
- Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant – Three packs last a year or more! I buy it once a year.
- Skims – So comfortable!
- Natori Bras – I replace my black and nude bras once a year and then add one in a fun color.
- Anastasia Eye Brow kit – I tried this for the first time and loved it! Easy to apply, and I needed that gel.

Hi Mary! Sandy is a great one to follow! I find her garden tips so helpful! I’m sure it’s a little different in AZ…for example, we are jealous of your citrus trees!

Annie,
Being introduced to Sandy is a treat. Her small garden inspires me as we await the refurbishing of our retirement apartment the end of August. For now, I”m content to dream about what flowers to include in a “little happy Posy”.
Enjoy your Sunday,
Diney

Hi Diney!
Yes, Sandy is so inspiring for us small gardeners! Even if it is just potted plants for a small garden, she knows how to do it!! Good luck with your move next month! Moving is exciting, isn’t it? All the planning and rearranging furniture in our heads ahead of the big day!
xx

Good info about the flowers! I plants several varieties of wildflowers every year. In zone 8, I plant my seeds in the fall for spring and summer blooms. If we all planted flowers the pollinators would have plenty to choose from!
