Making a mimosa wreath is probably the easiest wreath you could make. It takes very little time and requires very few supplies.

The Supplies You Will Need to Make a Wreath of Mimosa

Make a Wreath Using Birch Branch Twigs

Large birch trees drop small twigs that can be easily collected and formed into a wreath. I soak them in water for a few hours; they are much easier to work with and won’t break when you make your wreath. Soak the branches in a large round pan or bucket, and they will take on the shape of a circle, so forming them into a wreath is easy.

I secure the birch twigs in at least three places using the florist paddle wire that I wrap around the branches to hold them together. For this wreath, a few twigs broke loose, and I liked the look, so I didn’t go back and secure them.

Adding the Yellow Mimosa Flowers to the Wreath

There are so many ways to add mimosa flowers to your wreath. You can add them all around, completely covering a wooden wreath form, or add the flowers on one side. However you decide, this wreath is an easy DIY project. Secure the flower branches with a little wire, then tuck in a few smaller branches until you’re happy. I love how the yellow flowers look on the white background of the door. It’s like a little bit of sunshine on a gray spring day!

Where do Mimosa Shrubs Grow?

Mimosa shrubs bloom in the South of France from January to March. Their bright yellow flowers and beautiful fragrance remind us that spring is in the air. Although they can be found throughout the South, they are primarily in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The flowers are exported all over the world.

When we saw them at the Columbia Road Flower Market in London, they were sold in tall bunches wrapped in brown paper. When I bought them, they were wrapped in thick plastic, and the branches were much shorter. They are perfect for small vases and wreath making. They are a wonderful spring flower that lasts only a few days but dries beautifully.

Where to Buy Mimosa Flowers

I purchased mine from our local wholesale flower market; I have not seen them at places like Trader Joe’s. A local florist could order them if you cannot access a wholesale flower market.
