Spring Centerpiece Idea for the Table DIY

| |

Do you need an idea for an easy spring centerpiece? I made this for a casual dinner table. The iridescent glass bowl made an elegant spring centerpiece using nursery plants. It’s a minimal centerpiece with spring flowers that can be planted in outdoor pots after the dinner party.

What I love about this kind of centerpiece is that it can be made in many different ways; I usually start by finding the potted plants from the nursery I plan to use. Once I have the color or colors, I decide on the rest of the place settings. This time of year could be anything from all white and green to purple, orange, and yellow, as in pansies. I love how the different colors of the plants and flowers can change the whole vibe of the table.

Here is what you will need to make this lovely centerpiece

How to assemble the simple spring centerpiece

  1. Place a glass jar in the center using a footed bowl like this one. A simple mason jar will work; ensure it’s large enough to hold a candle.
  2. Add some small stones to the bottom of the bowl around the jar.
  3. Add potting soil to cover the stones.
  4. Plant the small nursery plants.
  5. Tuck in moss to cover the potting soil
  6. Light the candle!

What type of flowers or plants work best for this simple centerpiece?

I used Alysum and Dusty Miller plants that come in pony packs. In the spring, the plants at the nursery are small, which works perfectly. Look for plants in 3″ to 4″ pots if you use a larger-footed bowl or basket. You are looking for low profile plants.

Small spring bulbs, pansies, marigolds, lamb’s ear, and coleus, are a few plants that work in floral arrangements. If you want to add a plant like licorice or potato vine for color, texture, and spilling look, they are all small and compact in the spring. This makes them perfect for easy spring centerpieces, and then when you are done, plant in pots or window boxes outdoors.

Could this centerpiece work with fresh flowers or even faux flowers?

I always prefer fresh blooms, but that’s just me. If using fresh flowers, cut them short and arrange any flower in the bowl to float in water, or use floral foam. You’ll also need to use moss to cover the floral foam.

I love a floral centerpiece in the center of the dining room table, but flower arrangements take up quite a bit of space. When getting ready to sit at the table, I prefer to move it to my bar cart so that the centerpiece doesn’t block guests in the center of the table.

Spring table settings

The Alysum and Dusty Miller plants in the spring arrangement inspired the simple white and natural color palette. I used woven seagrass with a clear drinking glass for water, small tumblers for wine, garden stem stoneware plates and natural linen napkins from Terrain.

I used repurposed bottles with a single stem down the middle of the table. If a single stem in a bottle didn’t seem enough for the spring tablescape, Mason jars or small vases with a few flowers in similar colors to the centerpiece would work. I added twisty tapers, votives in ruffle candle holder cups, and mini tart tins.  Simple, but lovely! Now, let’s see what my friends say about spring table decor.

This beautiful white and blue tablescape is perfect for Mother’s Day or any other upcoming spring or even summer occasions.

    1. Hi Kris! My husband made it years ago! We wanted a distressed farm table when we were first married, but could not afford it, so he made it and it’s been our dining table ever since!
