These simple ideas are for easy entertaining during the holidays or any time of the year. We all love having friends over, but sometimes, the to-do lists for making that happen are too daunting. Here’s a simple idea that doesn’t require a recipe or turning on the oven!
I love to host friends, but sometimes, especially during the holidays, everyone is busy! So here’s an idea that went very well last week when I had a few friends over for tea and toast after a winter beach walk.
The easiest way to entertain is to be prepared ahead of time. This little party hardly required any prep, but I made some fancy butter in little molds early that morning.
How to host a simple tea & toast party
I only needed one quick trip to the grocery store to get my supplies. I decided to make it simple and serve toast. Who doesn’t love a slice of toast with butter and maybe some jam or marmalade? Anytime you can get a few friends together is a special occasion, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be simple!
Cinnamon toast reminds me of when my kids were little, so to this day, I still keep a jar of cinnamon sugar in the pantry. Add it to your toast bar, and you will surely get rave reviews!
Things you will need to buy (or check your pantry) for:
- Bread (at least two kinds).
- Jam
- Marmalade
- Butter
- Cinnamon sugar
- Cream cheese
- Peanut butter
- An assortment of tea
- Milk & honey
- Juice or fresh fruit
- Water (still and sparkling)
Supplies you will need in addition to a toaster
We used this toaster from Sabavi Home. Zwilling makes it, and we were impressed with how well it toasted and how consistent it was. It also comes in a four-slice toaster.
- Lunch-size plates—I love this size because it’s not so large that your plate looks empty, but it fits two slices of toast nicely.
- Mugs or tea cups
- A tea kettle (I love an electric tea kettle; I’m not sure why it took so many years to make the switch from a stovetop kettle).
- Spreaders and spoons
- Napkins (Paper or cloth)
Make butter in molds for an extra touch
A nice salted butter on a dish is perfectly fine, but I recently ordered these little chocolate molds and quickly realized how perfect they are for butter!
I used maple butter, available at Trader Joe’s, and salted French butter. I let the butter sit on the counter to room temperature, spread it into the molds, and froze it for an hour or so.
Transfer the frozen butter to a plate while still frozen, and refrigerate until close to the time you will be serving.
Let me know if you host a toast party! I posted this on Instagram yesterday, bringing up moments of nostalgia for many. Toast can do that! Not every get-together has to involve a lot of prep and hard work. Some can be as simple as putting out a basket of bread, a few jam jars, and turning on the kettle.
