My Favorite Summer Amazon Finds
I’m joining a few friends to share summer finds we buy on Amazon. First, everything must be cleaned for summer. And Amazon has everything I need to clean, plus a little outdoor decor.
Every year, I say the pollen was the worst ever. Still, truthfully, the pollen is bad every year, and after a Connecticut winter, everything needed to be cleaned thoroughly before we could enjoy grilling, entertaining, and just hanging on the porch.

Let’s start with cleaning items I buy from Amazon, plus a few backyard essentials

left to right: Small Leaf Blower // Long Handled Scrub Brush // Arm & Hammer Baking Soda // Bissell Upholstery & Carpet Cleaner // Portable Power Washer // Outdoor Umbrella // Patio String Lights // Extra Incandescent 11 Watt Bulbs // Umbrella Base Stand // Outdoor Curtain Rod // Black & White Outdoor Curtain Panels // Glassware
A portable power washer
You need a power washer if you have a house or a home with a patio. We’ve lived all over the country, and each place has unique issues that cause dirt and grime. In California, even living close to the ocean, the pollution in the air settled onto the furniture and surfaces enough that a simple hosing off wouldn’t quite “fix.” Using a power washer with an earth-friendly cleaning solution (we use Thieves) helped thoroughly clean everything from time to time year-round.
Now that we live on the East Coast, pollution is not as much of a problem, but dust, pollen, mold, and general grime still need to be cleaned up after the winter and spring.
A portable power washer like this one really helps on almost every surface. We even clean the car wheels since the car wash somehow doesn’t quite get them clean enough.
A carpet and upholstery cleaner
I never thought I would use this Bissell carpet & upholstery cleaner enough to make it worth it. They are not even expensive, way better than renting one. Do they even do that anymore? I use mine to clean rugs, upholstered furniture indoors, and, recently, our outdoor cushions. Our patio furniture has the original cushions; I could tell they were faded or dirty. Turns out it was dirt; now they look like new! I thought hosing them off would clean them, but they needed a deep spring cleaning using this machine that is so easy to use.
I loan mine to my kids, their friends, and our neighbors. It’s one of those things that’s great to share. You don’t use it often, but it is nice to have.
A leaf blower
We have a leaf blower that’s more for lawn maintenance, and this one that’s perfect for getting the dust off quickly. It’s much quieter and pretty effective for its size. I bought my 88-year-old mom one last year, and she says she uses it daily to keep her porch and patio clean. I doubt she needs to clean every day, but it makes her happy. And it is pretty dusty in Colorado!
Old-fashioned washing soda & long handles scrub brush
For cleaning our black-and-white painted porch, there’s simply nothing like sprinkling a little old-fashioned washing soda, mixing it with water, and then using this long-handled scrub brush. Let it soak briefly in the sun, and then rinse off. It doesn’t take much to get it back to looking clean!
I use Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, which I keep on hand for all kinds of outdoor cleaning projects.
Outdoor Curtains on the Porch
We live on our porch all summer. On one end, we have a lovely view of the Long Island Sound. We see the crew boats going by from early spring into the fall and sailboats all summer. On the other end, we are quite close to our neighbors. It’s nice to have a little privacy when we are dining or working on the porch.
These striped black and white curtains (are made to be used outdoors in any weather) come in several colors. We used this adjustable outdoor rod and hung the curtains in about 20 minutes. They come with ties that we use to secure them to the railings when it’s windy. Open or closed, they look beautiful, and we could not be happier.

String Lights with Incandescent Light Bulbs

Our small backyard is illuminated by string lights, which are 11-watt incandescent light bulbs that give off a charming, soft glow.
