I’m making Lemon Yogurt Cake because when you write a blog titled Most Lovely Things and you work in a {lovely} shop called Serena & Lily with amazing women–you pretty much have to make a big deal out of your co-workers’ birthdays. For Stefanie’s birthday I’m making Ina Garten’s Lemon Yogurt Cake. To avoid a crazy Sunday morning, I’ll get everything ready by measuring out all the dry ingredients and lining the pan with parchment paper the night before.
What I love about this cake (besides that it’s lemon) is that it does not require an electric mixer. This was one of the desserts we used to make in the summertime in California. For years we rented the same little cottage every summer and it was pretty bare bones. Desserts were brownies, s’mores or this lemon cake mixed together with nothing but a whisk and a rubber spatula.
To make it extra special I’ll bring in pretty dessert plates, tablecloth, candle and napkins. At the shop we are all about stripes. Watercolor stripes painted along with a birthday message for one last touch. Happy Birthday Stefanie! We love you!
Yum!! Thanks for posting Annie. I just pinned to my board “Summer Desserts”. This will definitely be in my dessert rotation this summer. Love the plates too, they look like Burleigh.

Monica
Annie,
I do that all the time, it’s like I’m my own sous chef (or sous baker?). I’ve wanted to make Ina’s Lemon Yogurt cake, this is the final motivation I need. The invitation/birthday card is wonderful and looks familiar. 🙂
xo,
Karen
But I should have written the message all throughout like you did on the Valentine! I loved your take on that! Next time! And the tea packets—a perfect touch!
YUM this looks fabulous. I am not a baker but I might just give this one a try. I am a huge Ina fan.
Cindy,
I’m not a baker either. I make a few things like this cake and Madeleines—but that’s about it! This is easy and since it’s a recipe from Ina–you know it’s delicious!

Awe, this takes me back to my summers growing up. My mom had a signature lemon cake that she always made for picnics and parties. Hers was a lemon cake mix-lemon pudding-eggs-and-oil concoction; it was always a hit. Still is. I love the blue and white striped card you created. It’s the perfect finishing touch.
A signature lemon cake will take you back to childhood summers in a heartbeat!
I love Ina and I love lemon and I’ve been wanting to try this cake! Haha maybe this is a sign that I just need to go ahead and do it, carbs be darned!
I know—carbs AND sugar! But it is really good!
