How to Make a Giant Outdoor Twig Star & Other Favorites
I’ve been making twig stars for a few years, so I’m not sure why it took me until this year to make a giant stick star to display outdoors. It’s the same idea as making smaller twig stars that I use on packages, as ornaments, or as garlands, but you’ll need more than hot glue to attach them.

What you will need to make one giant stick star
- Five sticks that are the same length and similar in diameter
- Screws
- Jute twine
- Power driver
- Heavy duty pruners
How to put your star together

- Lay out the sticks in the yard or on the driveway.
- Arrange the sticks to form a star (see this post for more detailed information)
- Drill small holes to be able to use screws to attach at the six tip points, and then in the middle of the star, you may want to screw at least two of the cross sticks to ensure that it stays intact.
- Add twine to the star tips.
- Wind a strand of twinkle lights around the perimeter. We used one 33′ strand with 100 lights and a black cord.
- Hang or lean outdoors to display all winter!

This door leads to our basement. In an old house, there are always some quirky things, like no access to the basement from inside the house. At the landing, just inside the door, is our 24-square-foot pantry, so this door is used a lot. So that’s why I love to make it pretty!
Shop MOST LOVELY THINGS customer appreciation SALE!
We are having our first-ever customer appreciation sale. Everything in the shop is 30% off starting today through Thanksgiving weekend! (The Discount will be applied to your entire order at checkout.) Visit the shop here!

Every item will be wrapped like a gift. Even if it’s just for you, it’s still fun to unwrap a package. With each order, I tuck in a “it’s the little things” postcard complete with a postage stamp because it really is all about the little things.
Here are a few of our favorites in the shop currently:
- A set of vintage French postcards.
- Working glasses are all slightly different in shape and size, which is what makes them unique.
- Bone-handled dinner knives stamped Paris to set a lovely table with a mix of old and new.
- A little pitcher to hold some flowers or a stem of foraged seed pods.
- Ashtrays. Use them as a catchall or as candle holders. The crystal ashtrays come with a book of matches from Cafe de Flore!

Have you tried Brodo Bone Broth?
I have been to the Brodo Bone Broth shop in Manhattan and enjoyed a steaming cup of delicious bone broth, but only in the last few months have I been drinking it every day at home.
I see the Instagram ads, and they always make me pause and listen. Bone broth is so good for us and has 10 grams of protein per cup. It’s healing….which is why I drink it every day! Now, I look forward to it!
They just posted a recipe for making your own bone broth using your turkey carcass. I’ll probably give it a try, but I will always have my pantry stocked with a supply of Brodo bone broth! You can start with a Sampler Box.
I never knew you went outside to access your pantry. It certainly looks festive!!
I hope everyone is taking advantage of your sale! I just did. I need to try bone broth. I don’t know why I haven’t. We should probably add it to every soup! Your star is amazing! Summer would probably like to make one!! Maybe we will do a smaller version while she is here this week!!
Cindy! You will love it! We do use it for making soups, but mostly we love drinking it for lunch. I look forward to it every day! It’s so delicious!
So beautiful Annie I just love the giant star. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving xo
Happy Thanksgiving Francesca!! xx
