Tiny House Design

|

My friend Caitlin of the popular Instagram account @thepicketfenceprojects has built a tiny house, or guest house, or granny pod, whatever you want to call it, on the property of their current home for her parents when they are not living in Florida. It’s technically it’s called an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit).

I just have to share this beautiful home and Caitlin’s account for Sunday favorites, in case you are not already following. She is definitely a source of inspiration!

Caitlin and her family live a few towns away in Coastal Connecticut, and remodeled their existing home so beautifully. Every detail, and the way she reimagined rooms and spaces, is amazing! I have always admired her style, and so when I started seeing plans for a tiny house, I knew it would be good!

Main living area

The rug is from Ernesta. Caitlin said her mom thrifted many of the items used. With the exception of the sofa– the chair, lamp, round side table, square coffee table were all thrifted. Caitlin says her mom loved to thrift way before it was trendy!

Bathroom and bedroom

The house is about 725 square feet. Caitlin designed this small house in a way that functions beautifully! Everything was condsidered from the built-in or integrated closets. She says ” Their built-in closet houses a very edited down wardrobe consisting of what they love without any filler.” Everything is thoughtful and intentional.

They were even able to design the bathroom with two sinks and a generous size shower.

The Paris Library + a giveaway!

I loved reading The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles, and it feels like the perfect time to mention it again as it celebrates its five-year anniversary. Inspired by the real librarians at the American Library in Paris during World War II, the story follows Odile, a young librarian in Paris who continues delivering books to Jewish readers during the occupation. There’s also a second storyline set years later in Montana that gently weaves the past and present together. It’s a beautiful reminder of how much books connect us and carry stories across generations.

To celebrate five years of this wonderful novel, we have a giveaway for a signed copy. The author will send a signed copy to one winner! To enter, leave a comment and follow Janet on Instagram. You can read more about this on Janet’s Substack here, and make sure you are following her on Instagram! @jskesliencharles

Winner announced on Tuesday, February 24th.

After you read THE PARIS LIBRARY, you’ll want to read THE PARISIAN CHAPTER, and MISS MORGAN’S BOOK BRIGADE. I’ve linked them here, but of course it’s always better to buy them at your local book store!

Big Shirts from GAP + custom embroidery

I adore these shirts from GAP. They used to only have black, white and maybe one stripe. They have added a few new options. The poplin is a really nice weight for wearing year round. I just ordered a cotton Oxford, a new black shirt and this stripe.

Since they are a little “basic” I’m going to ask my friend Meredith to embroider my initals and a little croissant on the pocket. If you are interested in having something embroidered, you can DM Meredith on Instagram. @mermade_brooklynny

Let’s check in with Cindy and Mary ann to see what they found this week!

    1. Hi Francesca! An ADU would be ideal for a writer! Can’t wait to get to episode 6 of the Night Agent…although, I must say, it’s stressful watching. I’m on the edge of my seat. But that’s what makes it so interesting. Our whole family is watching!
