Make a Simple Spring Centerpiece for the Table DIY
For Sunday Favorites with Mary Ann and Cindy this week, I’m sharing a very simple spring centerpiece you can use on the table for Easter or on the kitchen counter for spring decoration.

The great thing is that you can make one or even two or three in less than 20 minutes. You’ll need a few supplies and potted plants from the grocery store.
Supplies You’ll Need for the First Centerpiece

- A medium to large basket, footed bowl, or flat bowl (think serving size)
- Some birch branch twigs (I found mine under a large birch tree in my neighborhood, but you can buy them at a florist and reuse them).
- Floral paddle wire
- Preserved moss, Spanish moss, Reindeer moss)
- Small stones or rocks
- 3, 5, or 7 small plants (Depending on the size of your bowl or basket)
The Footed Serving Bowl from Terrain

I use Terrain’s beautiful iridescent glass pedestal serving bowl for my earthy but elegant spring centerpiece. I love the iridescent glass mixed with the twigs and moss for a special centerpiece. I chose this type of flower because the daffodils were a little high but were not too high for the center of the table.
A glass bowl is perfect because you don’t have to worry about the plants and water leaking onto the table. It’s a very simple centerpiece in a pretty bowl with natural elements.
How to Put the Spring Centerpiece Together
- Take the birch branches and soak them in water in a bucket overnight. Your birch branches will be very pliable the next day, and you can shape them into a circle. You want the circle to be about the size of the rim of your bowl or basket. Fasten the branches you’ve formed into a circle in 2-3 places with a little florist wire. I let some branches look a little wispy to look natural, like a nest.
- Then, if using a basket, line the basket with some plastic. I’m using a glass pedestal bowl, so I did not need to line the bowl. Place a layer of small stones or small rocks in the bottom of the bowl. Then, remove the plastic pot and nestle in the plants close together.
- Add preserved moss to cover the soil, tucking it inside the birch branch nest. And that’s it! It’s so easy but beautiful and springy.
What Kind of Flowers or Fresh Blooms Work Best for this Type of Spring Arrangement?
- Miniature daffodils
- Primrose
- Hyacinth
- Grape Hyacinth
- Muscari
- Tulips
This time of year (a week or two after Valentine’s Day), the spring plants start lining the shelves at the grocery store and Trader Joe’s. I like to stick with one color and sometimes all the same type of flowers, as I did here with the miniature daffodils. I prefer to use plants in odd numbers. For my vessel, I only needed three 4″ potted plants. If you are using a large flat basket, you may want to pick up five or even seven plants. You can try using the same or a mix of plants, but I would stick with one color palette.
Try using potted primrose plants for a low-profile centerpiece, especially if the floral centerpiece is on the dining room table. You don’t want to block views of your dinner (or brunch) guests.
Another Spring Centerpiece Idea Using an Iron Nest

We used an iron nest display stand from Terrain for this lovely centerpiece. I lined the iron nest with the wrapper that often comes with a plant from the grocery store. I turned it outside out, so the outside that will show slightly through the moss is the color of kraft paper. The small nest holds a 4″ Muscari plant perfectly.
I added a little preserved moss to cover the soil and tucked it into the nest under the plant wraps I used as a liner.
A Spring Tablescape Perfect for Easter or Mother’s Day

Pink plaid napkins // Twisty tapers in neutrals // Floral bunches plates // Daffodil iron garland // Colored bee glassware // Iridescent glass pedestal bowl all from Terrain.
Using our earthy minimal centerpiece for our spring dining table means we can use different colors in plates and napkins. We chose the floral plates in two sizes that have several spring colors. We’ll use pink plaid linen napkins, clear drinking glass, and colored wine glasses on the dinner table.
I will also use this iron daffodil garland that has lovely details. The whole look combines the colors, textures, and earthiness of the moss and plants.
A few more Sunday Favorites this week!
I saw this crochet cross-body bag in two neutral colors at Uniqlo this week. These will go fast at $29.90! Ever since I started wearing their round mini shoulder crossbody bag, I’ve realized how great they are for every day and especially for travel.
If you’re a Sézan lover like me, you probably already know they had a Clyde Trench restock. I missed out last time!
Last week, I included a cute French film I watched with Madeline at her apartment. This week, we saw another French film called The Taste of Things, which we loved and highly recommend.
That’s it for me this week!
