Add a Little Charm: Cafe Curtains for Kitchen Storage
Why are people using cafe curtains?
Open shelving has been in and out of style for years, but the trouble with too much open shelving is the lack of storage for items you don’t want showing. Using cafe curtains is actually a comeback trend. It’s nostalgic, and it softens a room.
As we search for apartments in New York City, I can’t help but hope we have space for some open shelving mixed with a cafe curtain.

Cindy’s laundry room was pretty great to start, but recently she added a few details, like the cafe curtain, which really softens the room. You can see the before and read more in Cindy’s post, here.
Laundry + coffee bar
On the left, the cafe curtain is concealing a washer/dryer. A tailored pleat like this gives a very custom feel, like custom cabinetry. It’s sophisticated in style and color palette. On the right, a more relaxed style, but just as functional.

In other news…Our daughter got married this week!
We are so thrilled to announce that Madeline and Rohit got married on Thursday in New York City! It was a courthouse wedding, and the day could not have been more perfect. It was just the happy couple, our family, and his, now one family! They will have a formal wedding in October!
Only a few people could go inside the courthouse, so it was decided that the siblings (Patrick, Kate, and Neha)would go inside, plus Pat, their friend and photographer. The parents waited outside on the steps.
After, we all walked to The Odeon for a celebratory lunch where the staff treated us like it was their first and only wedding lunch…when in fact we were their fifth that very same day! They gave us complimentary champagne, the best table in the house, and impeccable service!

If you are still in search of the perfect summer pants, they’re the Soleil pants from J.Crew. Some colors are on sale. I have a black pair, but these light chambray and the chambray stripe with red and white paired with a white poplin shirt on a hot summer day is just the outfit you need!
They are easy to accessorize with what you already own. Red flip flops are so popular this year. I love these from J.Crew. The strap is just thick enough to make them comfortable.

As many of you know, because I have mentioned it several times, I get most of my reading recommendations from my daughter. She and two friends have a Substack and an Instagram where they share book recommendations. You can check out their Substack here, and follow on Instagram @read_receipts.
We were talking the other night, and we both agreed that Anne Patchett’s latest novel, Whistler, is one of our favorite books we’ve read this year…and maybe ever! Have you read it? I’m so curious. I listened on audio, which is read by the author.

Congratulations to Madeline and Rohit and to their delighted parents!! Deciding the siblings should accompany the bride and groom speaks volumes about all of you. What stories they must have shared when they returned to their parents waiting on the steps.
Thank you for sharing the extraordinary double terracotta bird pots from Terrain. I’m going to buy one for the top of the small glass topped iron table that my niece gifted me after my sister’s unexpected death last November. It was called the “coin table” because as was our custom, when my sister and I spotted a yard sale item at the same time, we flipped a coin. Twenty years ago she won the table and painted it her signature red. Now on our terrace, repainted black, the pot will remind me of my dear sister and her love of feeding the birds at her island cottage.
