Jackie Fucigna of the shop No. 299 Home Tour

I am so thrilled to bring you the home tour of my friend Jackie, owner of the wonderful home decor shop No. 299. I’ve known Jackie for over 10 years through her shops in Fairfield and New Canaan, and she is a true champion for small businesses. As a small business owner herself, she knows how important it is to support your neighbors — and Jackie couldn’t be a better example of that spirit.

She is kind, generous, and a good friend to everyone lucky enough to know her. Jackie brings that same warmth home, filling her house with cozy lighting, lamps, mirrors, textiles, and all the small details that make a house feel like a home.

Jackie’s home is just as lovely outdoors as it is inside. She entertains often and takes full advantage of their beautiful backyard, which has gone through quite a transformation since they purchased the home in 2019.

Here is my interview with Jackie of No. 299!

Background & Style

A: Jackie, have you always worked in a creative field?

J: “My first career was in public relations, but I have always been drawn to creative things, people, ideas, etc.“

A: How would you describe your style in three words?

J: Curated, timeless + approachable

A: Would you say your personal style shows up in your home?”

J: “Yes, very similar.“

The Home

A: How long have you lived in your current home, and where is it located?

J: “We moved around the corner to this house in 2019. Fairfield, Connecticut.“

A: What’s your home’s greatest feature, and what’s its biggest challenge?

J: “UGH, that’s a tough one. Old bones + a head-to-toe makeover = a home we love. The biggest challenge was believing in my vision, even when I look back now and say what the heck!? We joke that the only thing that didn’t need to be replaced/repaired was the roof. People didn’t even know there was a house on this lot it was so forgotten.”

A: What is your favorite element in your home?

J: “It’s probably our sunroom…I love that the natural light pours in all year long. We spend a lot of time in there”

A: Where do you find your inspiration?

J: “Travel is a huge source of inspo for me. Any space that is perfectly imperfect works for me. Even the natural landscape we find in the outer Cape falls into that category. That and anything with a vintage-vibe.”

Collecting & Making

A: “What do you collect, and do you have a favorite piece?”

J: “When I hear the word collect, it always makes me think of expensive things. I love to find a treasure amongst junk! Our vintage fireman’s locker turned into our bar is probably one of my fave pieces”

A: Every collected home has some element of DIY. What is the DIY project you are most proud of?

J: “I would probably say the outside space, including the outdoor shower. We put the shower in 2 years ago and it was 90% DIY.   I am so proud of our backyard, when we moved in there was not a single blooming plant, tree or bush.  Our perennial garden (which I add to every spring) is coming along as well as our shade garden. I love having hydrangeas and flowers I can cut and use inside.”

A: Do you have a go-to source for unique or one-of-akind pieces you’d be willing to share?

J: “I am a big fan of Habitat for Humanity”

Wrap-up

A: What is your biggest home-related indulgence?

J: “Our Elkay in-wall water dispenser.”

Jackie, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with MLT! I would agree with you 100 percent about your three words to describe your style. And I know that you are a huge fan of travel and recently spent a month in Nice, France, and Lisbon, Portugal, soaking up the culture and living like a local.

When it comes to collecting, I love a down-to-earth collection. Nothing expensive for me either. In fact, my favorite collection is sand from the beaches we visit! I adore the red fire locker that you turned into a bar! Very cool and very original!

Jackie, you really have transformed your home both inside and out! Your home is warm, inviting, and simply gorgeous!
