The 3-Ingredient French Snack & Other French Favorites

We just returned home from France, and while it is nice to be home, we always wish we had one ot two more days. You know it’s a good trip when you are wishing for more, right? To ease back into our home routines, I’m planning to make some of our favorite simple French meals and a 3-ingredient French snack that will remind us of our time in France.

Le Goûter

Le Goûter is a sandwich made of only three ingredients. A piece of a baguette, a smear of salted French butter, and a square (or two) of chocolate. The tradition of this simple snack originated when school children needed a snack to bridge the gap from after school to dinner, which is typically not served until at least 8 p.m. in France.

We don’t indulge often with a snack like this, but upon returning to New York, I knew I would be making one the very next day, just as a sweet reminder of Paris.

Sweaters from Sézane

Sézane has an excellent selection of sweaters. My favorites are usually the cardigans, which they have in many colors and textures. Little details like beautiful buttons and a grosgrain placket, which gives it stability, preventing it from stretching out of shape.

Don’t Be a Tourist in Paris

Author and shop owner Vanessa Grall has three books on exploring Paris, London, and New York and finding the true treasures of each city.

In her book, Don’t Be a Tourist in Paris, Vanessa invites her readers to explore her adopted city like a local. I visited her lovely shop a few months ago, and it’s a must-see next time you are in Paris. I talk a little bit about it in my post: The Best Souvenirs to Bring Home From France.

Vanessa owns the shop called Messy Nessy Chic – Cabinet of Curiosities.

Warby Parker Sunglasses

Green sunglasses woth grey lenses.

I recently bought new glasses from Warby Parker. I had a great experience starting with my eye exam, and it prompted me to order sunglasses. I met Madeline at the Warby Parker in Brooklyn, and we both liked the Tal frame in rosemary crystal matte.

In the past, I never thought I could see as well with my sunglasses as with regular glasses, but this pair is amazing! I chose the Tal sunglasses with polarized grey lenses. I can even wear them into a shop without changing glasses. They are NOT transitions, although they do offer transitions. I did choose all the upgrades. They are not cheap, but having sunglasses of this quality is worth it! – IMO.

New French treasures coming to the shop soon!

Our trip to France was to restock Our French Finds. We visited a huge flea market in Avignon, which takes place only eight times a year. People come from all over to buy everything from furniture and art to small things like latte bowls and plates. Obviously, we were in search of the smaller items!

We also went to one of our favorite flea markets in Lyon. You can read more about Les Puces du Canal in this post.

Let’s see what Cindy & Mary Ann found this week.

  1. Welcome home from what seem’s like your second home, Annie,

Your latest French adventure is a great prelude to fall making me ready to shop your sweet store as soon as you post. I recognized the crystal dish I purchased in the spring, holding salted French butter for the LeCouter Sandwich. Our son who comes every Wednesday will love the sandwich for lunch.

I’ve been waiting to add just the right sweater to my core wardrobe and the Sezanne “Betty” is it. I hope it fits.
    Hugs fpr fall,

    1. HI Diney! How wonderful to have your son come for lunch every Wednesday! Is there anything better than salted French butter? I hope you love the Betty sweater. It’s a cardigan that is sort of like a jacket, but you could still wear a coat or jacket over it. But in your part of the country, I’ll bet it will be perfect!
Leaves are starting to change…I am ready for fall!
      xoxo
