Easy Garlic Butter Candle

When I saw this easy garlic butter candle, I knew I had to try it! I mean, bread and butter, what could be better? Perfect for any kind of special occasion!
So, what is a garlic butter candle?
It’s a butter mixture that has been formed much like a wax candle. Once the butter candle begins to warm from being lit, the well by the wick is melted butter that can be dipped in with a piece of bread. I prefer to use a butter knife, but either way works!

What will I need to make it?
- Butter (obviously)!
- Garlic
- Solo cup
- Wick
- Sharp tip tool
- Mixing bowl
- Bread loaf (for the butter candle holder)
- Fresh baguette or any kind of crusty bread for dipping
How do you make it?

You’ll need softened, room temperature butter mixed with roasted garlic. The garlic butter is put into a plastic cup fitted with a wick, just like a candle. I used a Solo cup and punctured a cup hole in the bottom for the wick using a sharp tip tool. You will also need a cup that can easily be cut open to remove the butter once it has hardened in the freezer.
Solo cups work for this reason; the only downside is that they have logos. I decided to use what I had on hand, but if you need to buy cups specifically, look for ones without logo markings.

What herbs could I substitute for garlic?
Any kind of herbed butter is delicious. If garlic is not your thing, just mix in your favorite herbs instead. Basil, thyme, oregano, or rosemary would also be delicious.

- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 30 minutes
- Total Time: 45 minutes
- Yield: 2 1x
- Category: bread
Ingredients
- 1 pound butter, softened
- One head of garlic, roasted
- One Italian loaf of bread
- One Baguette
Instructions
-
Slice the top off the head of garlic and place it in a small roasting pan or oven-safe dish and cover it with foil. Drizzle about a tablespoon of olive oil over the garlic and bake covered for 20 minutes, then uncovered for 10 more minutes.
-
Add the softened butter to a bowl, and then add the garlic. Mix and whisk until smooth.
-
Prepare the plastic cups by making a small hole in the middle of the bottom of the cup.
-
Insert a wick and fill each cup with half of the butter garlic.
-
Make sure the wick is centered and pull from the top of the wick just until the metal piece is flush with the butter. Cover and freeze for at least two hours.
-
Prepare the bread, which is the serving bowl.
-
First, choose a loaf of bread that is deep enough to hold the butter candle. I made two butter candles, so I chose an Italian loaf that could hold two.
-
To make the opening for the butter candles, make an X in the bread about the diameter of the candle. Then cut the X forming a circle or vessel for the candle.
-
Repeat this on the other end of the bread if making two.
-
Slice a baguette for serving.
-
Place the cups of butter in the freezer. Once the butter has hardened, remove it from the freezer and cut the cup open to remove the butter candle.
-
Place the butter candle into the bread vessel and let the butter come to room temperature.
-
Trim the wick a little and light. Allow at least 30 minutes for the butter to soften and get warm from the flame.
-
Dip or use small butter knives to spread the butter, being careful not to extinguish the flame.
-
Enjoy!

Do you or Madeleine have any midtown suggestions? Planning a summer visit with 16year old grand daughter for a Broadway musical experience. Need hotel and restaurant ideas that are nice but won’t break the bank.
