A Little Valentine You Can Make Using Magnetic Acryclic Frames

There’s something about Valentine’s Day that makes me want to make something homemade, but also a little useful. Nothing over the top, just a little something thoughtful. This year, I’ve been playing around with small square acrylic frames, and they turned into the sweetest little Valentine craft. Once Valentine’s Day is over, the magnetic acrylic frame can hold a special photograph or other small memento.
Acrylic frames are easy to use and can be changed out in an instant. You just slide the two pieces apart that are held together with two magnets, and then add your heart or a photo.
I found a few small acrylic frames and kept everything else very simple: paper hearts, a few words, and a bit of time at the table. That’s it. I love projects like this—easy to make, easy to personalize, and easy to tuck onto a shelf or nightstand once February has passed.
For each frame, I cut a small heart from transparent sticky note paper and paired it with a short saying. Some are in English, some in French—because a little French always feels romantic, doesn’t it?.

I used small, transparent sticky notes and placed one onto a piece of paper. I carefully folded it in half—without creasing—and cut out half of a heart. After removing the paper, I stuck the heart to the inside of the 4″ x 4″ acrylic frame.
Next, write or print a favorite word or saying for the occasion and layer it over the heart, then replace the top half of the frame.

You could also use tissue paper to make the hearts, or cut a word from a book or magazine and layer it on top. There are so many different options and ways to make this your own.

Click here to print out the above words/phrases.
You can handwrite them, type them, or use the template I created using a fun font called Playwrite BR. Once everything is layered inside the acrylic frame, the result is clean and modern, but still soft and heartfelt.

These little frames make lovely Valentine gifts for just about anyone—wrapped up and tied with a little twine or ribbon.

Valentine’s Day + Terrain
As many of you know, I get a lot of my inspiration from Terrain. I live just a few minutes from the Westport store and visit often. On my visit this week, the place was filled with lovely Valentine’s Day gifts, so I decided to stock up for the people I love. Even if you don’t live near a Terrain, their website and Instagram are beautiful for inspiration.
Here are a few of my Terrain favorites:

The Botanical Silhouette Side Plate and Mug are so pretty in a soft pink. I have them in green and use them often. You can see them in this post. // Newly released Brunch Season Cookbook // Tray // Painted Enamel Matchbox // Illuminated Frabric Heart would be so charming in a little girl’s bedroom // I have this Painted Glass Heart hanging in my kitchen on a vintage peg rack like this one from our shop.// Color Story Heart Bulbs // Floral Heart Medallion on a Stand

Glass Heart Taper Holders // Mauve Fluted Glass + Iron Vase // Dotted Rim Pink Glass Vase // Colorful Footed Glass Vase // Bouquet of Dried Flowers // Valentine Mice Felt Critters // Small Archival Tray (set of 2) // Glass Heart Ornaments // Cozy Socks with Hearts // Enameled Floral Heart Medallion + Stand
Next week, I’ll show you how I wrap up my finds from Terrain and then send them off to loved ones so they arrive by the first of February! Follow me on Instagram to see how I wrap them! As you may know, wrapping is one of my favorite things to do!

What a wonderful heartfelt gift? Could you do it with the photo and the heart on the back …in other words using both?
I am dying to go back to Terrain with you!
Mary Ann, I was hoping we could do that on your way to SF! Next time! xx
You are so darn clever! How on earth do you come up with so many clever ideas? I wish we lived near a Terrain. We have a very small Anthro that is geared toward college girls.
Cindy! Come visit and we will go to the Terrain in Westport and the huge Anthropologie that’s in an old YMCA building!
Lovely creative things thank you Annie ! I wish Terrain was nearer to me! Happy week!
Hi Annie,
You are always full of lovely craft ideas for all the holidays. Valentines Day is one of my favorites. This year I’m hosting a small Galentine’s luncheon for a few ladies. I’m working on creating a red heart with white wooden beads between the hearts.
It’s not turning out like I had hoped. It will do. Creating a fun guessing game, the winner will take home a gift.
