Make Pumpkin Spice Candles in Yogurt Jars

| |
Green and rust yogurt jars on table with leaves.

As soon as I saw that La Fermière Yogurt released fall edition colors in its ceramic jars, I knew I had to make a batch of DIY pumpkin spice candles.

Making your own homemade soy candles is easy with just a few supplies. I had leftover supplies from making lavender candles, so I knew it would only take a few minutes to find the essential oils needed for pumpkin spice. Perfect to share for Sunday favorites!

Essential oils to make pumpkin spice scented candles

I use 100% pure essential oils instead of artificial fragrance. You can use cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, orange, and cardamom. You can use any combination of essential oils. I went pretty heavy on the amount I used because I really wanted them to have a scent that you could smell when you walked into the room. Essential oils, unlike fragrance, never overwhelm.

First, gather your supplies to make four soy wax candles in yogurt jars

  • Four clean yogurt jars or cups
  • Soy wax flakes
  • Candle wicks
  • Popsicle sticks like these (or pencils will work)
  • Candle-making pitcher or melting pot
  • A wooden skewer or chopstick for stirring
  • Essential oils in your favorite fall scents, like pumpkin pie

How to make homemade candles

  1. Prepare your jars or cups
  2. Place a hot glue dot at the center of the bottom of your yogurt jar, then quickly place the silver part of the candle wick onto it. Repeat for all four of your jars. Or use the stickers that often come with wick packages.
  3. Popsicle sticks with holes in them keep the wick centered.
  4. Melt the wax in the candle-making pitcher. It melts quickly over medium heat.
  5. Remove from the heat and add your essential oils.
  6. Using a wooden skewer or a chopstick, gently stir to combine the essential oils.
  7. Pour the hot wax into each cup just below the rim, making sure the wick is centered in the jar.
  8. Allow the melted wax to harden at room temperature. (It takes about 30 minutes)
  9. Trim the wicks once the candle wax hardens.

Wrap them up!

To gift your candles, wrap them in ribbon and a small piece of cardboard, or use bamboo lids you can purchase from Le Fermière. I used my old school label maker to make pumpkin spice labels for the cardboard lids.

The Essentials book

Caitlin Flemming and Julie Goebel, mother and daughter, released their new book, The Essentials this week.  A beautiful and inspiring book. I love all three of their books.

Gift Wrap from Serena & Lily

I love to wrap gifts! I am always looking for interesting ways to add a little something special to my ordinary Kraft wrap, which I buy at the hardware store. I saw these Gifting Tassels on sale at Serena & Lily. Each comes in a package of 6 for $10. Choose from three colors. They also have beautiful ribbonswicker starsbows, and bells to trim packages or the tree.

Favorites this week from Quince

Organic Stretch Corduroy Straight Leg Pants

I ordered two pairs of their corduroy straight-leg pants, and they are my new go-to pants for everyday! They come in six colors and two inseams. They are super comfortable and look great when washed and hung dry.

Quince also has a stretch-corduroy flare pant, but they ran a bit too short for me.

Mongolian Cashmere Fisherman Crewneck Sweater

I have three of these sweaters from last year. They are very similar to Jenni Kayne, but for a fraction of the price. The Mongolian cashmere crewneck comes in 10 colors.

100% Shearling Duffle Jacket

I have my eye on this gorgeous Shearling Duffle Jacket. It’s $450, but traditional retail is $1,800 according to Quince.

Favorite socks to wear with sneakers, clogs & loafers

I am so happy that wearing socks is “in”, aren’t you? It’s more comfortable and certainly warmer in the winter. I have a few favorites that I can’t stop talking about to anyone who will listen.

Garnet Hill for cashmere

I always turn to Garnet Hill for cashmere socks. They last for years and are so comfortable—just the right weight.

Adidas for socks with sneakers

I wear these socks with sneakers. I love the little ruffled edge that only shows when you’re seated, but like we always say, it’s the little things. I’m still loving wearing Samabs and just ordered this pair for winter.

Comme Si socks to wear with anything

Saving the best for last, Comme Si trouser socks are the best socks to wear with anything, especially loafers. They are the perfect weight for any shoe. They are made in Italy using Egyptian cotton. You can try one pair, or they have several sets. Madeline gave me my first pair, and we are both slightly obsessed with these socks!

  1. I’ve been socks with my loafers thanks to you. And now I have more sources…thanks. I am definitely going to pick up that yogurt!

  2. Hi Annie

Those candles are to die for!! You are so darn clever! That Quince shearling jacket is gorgeous and thank you sock queen for all the sock recs!!

  3. Hi Annie,
Love that sherling jacket so much!! You have such a great eye for finding things. And socks yes, perfect, that would make good stocking stuffers. I took advantage of the recent Garnet Hill discount and bought a flannel shirt for my 92 year old mum that is so cozy and warm. They are having great discounts going on. Have a lovely week

  4. I’m a sock fiend! I actually have three drawers full from very thin summer socks to thick merino wool hiking socks! I have never stopped wearing them. My pitiful painful feet insist on socks for comfort and warmth. I love Quince sweaters! I can’t wear their pants as my waist is only five inches less than my hips. I’m petite with slim hips and thighs with my waist having gotten larger, it is difficult to find pants. I also have a limited budget. I can wear size 10 or 1.5 P in Chicos jeans and ponte pants as they have a more forgiving waistband. They are not too tight and are comfortable.

    1. HI Sydney! You are the sock expert! I can’t believe all the years I never wore socks! The Quince sweaters both cotton and cahsmere are fantastic! The pants are great if they are the right fit, but good to know Chico’s has jeans! I don’t think I knew that!
Have a lovely week! And thank you for reading!

  5. I just hit up Whole foods for the yogurt… excited to try and then to make the candles! I have so many essential oils (I am a believer in their medicinal qualities) and I am excited to use different fragrances for the candles in the cute cute jars! Thank you so much for your ideas!

    1. HI Dianne! Did you have any luck finding the yogurt jars? I don’t see that fall colors on their website any longer. I’m hoping they do somthing fun for Christmas too!
