Homemade brownies are my go-to dessert for the 4th of July. I dust them with powdered sugar over letters or cut-out designs, and they are always a hit!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. Line an 8-inch baking pan with parchment using clips to secure the edges and grease the parchment paper.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter and remove it from the heat.
  4. Stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until combined.
  5. Add the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt to the saucepan and stir until combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the baking pan and bake for about 25 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean when insert in the middle of the pan.
  7. Remove from oven and let it completely cool.
  8. Once the brownies have cooled, place the letters or decorations on top of the brownies and dust with powdered sugar. Carefully remove the decorations with tweezers and the brownies are ready!
