Checkerboard Brunch Toast

Inspired by the Japanese cafe, Davelle in New York City.

Ingredients

  • Texas toast bread
  • Butter (room temperature)
  • Blueberry jam
  • Whipped or softened cream cheese
  • Raspberries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Toast the bread in a toaster and then butter, or butter both sides and fry in a skillet. (This is my preferred way)
  2. Allow the toast to cool slightly
  3. Start in one corner, spread the cream cheese with a narrow spreader, then the blueberry jam using a clean spread. Complete one row, then turn the toast and repeat until the toast is covered with spreads of cream cheese and jam, creating a checkerboard.
  4. Then add raspberries to some or all of the white squares. (optional)
