A Farmhouse Kitchen in the Hudson Valley

Last Sunday, I shared a beautiful farmhouse in the Hudson Valley. This week, Lidey Heuck revealed her own farmhouse kitchen renovation in the Hudson Valley, and it’s gorgeous.
You are probably familiar with Lidey from her best-selling cookbook Cooking in Real Life, or as a contributor to The New York Times. But did you know how she got her start in food?
Lidey began her career working for Ina Garten, where she spent several years as Garten’s assistant, and then went on to work with Erin French at The Lost Kitchen.
On the Food Blogger Pro Podcast Episode 470, Lidey talked about how she found herself working for Ina Garten. I think the story is such a great reminder that if you want something, you have to go for it!
When she was a senior in college, she wrote to Ina. She had a distant connection through a friend, but at the same time, she wrote Ina a letter introducing herself, and the timing could not have been better. Ina was looking for someone to help with social media. Who better than a recent graduate?
I’ve been following along since she and her husband bought the house in 2022. You can read more about her kitchen remodel and see before photos on her Substack, LideyLetter.

A few pieces that caught my eye!
The entire kitchen, from the layout (no upper cabinets) to the light and the minimal free-standing island, is stunning, but the details are so good.
I instantly recognized the lamp shade by Damson Madder for Anthropologie. I love a lamp in the kitchen, and with no upper cabinets, you can go a little bigger.
The enamel fruit bowl is from Falcon Enamelware. A versatile piece that can also be used to hold cold drinks on ice.

This kitchen makes me think of the “Unexpected Red Theory” I wrote about here. A little bit of “unexpected” red in the lamp shade and stools sets this kitchen apart from the typical “farmhouse” kitchen. It’s those thoughtful details that make it all her own. Make sure to follow her on Instagram, @lideylikes, where she shares her new plate wall. Yes, it’s a lot of red, and it is beautiful.
A few more favorite finds this week:
Compression Packing Cubes
I ordered the Quince Eco Compression Packing Cubes for my trip on Monday, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to regular ones. They have an extra zipper that gently compresses everything down, so somehow there’s more room in my suitcase—and everything feels a little more organized.
Candles, trays, and custom matches

For our daughter Madeline’s wedding this fall, we are starting to think about the little details we can take care of now. Like ordering candles, and hand soap for the restrooms. We love these candles from Quince. We will put them in these catchall trays from Target.
Then we are ordering custom matchbooks and guest towels from For Your Party. They have everything you could imagine for a special party, or to use at home for entertaining. I love the idea of having a bowl of matches at the door with your last name and address on them.
You can customize the color, style, and font of all the For Your Party products to suit your style and needs.
Cotton Poplin Pajamas from GAP
All of my pajamas are from GAP. I wear flannel in the winter and cotton poplin in summer. This year, they have brown gingham and navy blue gingham, too! They have a ton of options, and all so cute. And they are currently on sale!
J. Crew Sale
I just bought another pair ofthese beach pants for summer. I love their Perfect Cashmere Cardigans too. Many of the colors are on sale.
