A Charming Homemade Gift: Apple Pie Kit in a Jar

Pie dish with jar of apples and a Christmas tea towel.

I think it’s very heartwarming to give (or receive) a homemade pie. So this year, I put together a simple gift: an Apple Pie Kit complete with a Staub pie dish, a jar of ready-to-bake apples, and a printable label that turns the whole package into a gift-worthy moment. It’s the kind of present that feels both cozy and considered—perfect for neighbors, teachers, friends, and Sunday favorites with Mary Ann and Cindy.

Why an apple pie kit makes a perfect gift

Instead of gifting a finished pie, this kit allows the recipient to enjoy the aroma and tradition of baking one themselves. Everything they need is ready to go. They can bake it now, freeze it for later, or save it for the holidays.

And pairing the jar of apples with a Staub pie dish makes it feel extra special. It’s a gift that’s both practical and charming.

What you’ll need to put a pie kit together

  • Staub pie dish (available in cherry red, dark blue, and white)
  • A clean glass jar
  • Sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon (recipe here)
  • Pretty holiday tea towel
  • Printable apple pie label (ingredients & instructions)
  • A package of homemade or store-bought pie dough
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Parchment paper
  • Sticker paper

Print out a label for the jar

I created a printable label that fits perfectly on the jar. It includes the ingredients and simple instructions. I chose a handwritten font to make the kit feel cozy and nostalgic. Once printed on sticker paper, it becomes the finishing touch that ties the entire gift together.

How to assemble the pie kit

  1. Prepare the apple filling. Slice apples and mix them with white sugar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and a squeeze of lemon. Pack tightly in a jar and refrigerate until gifting. (Staub mixing bowl set)
  2. Print and apply the label. Stick it onto the jar for a polished, homemade look that also provides clear directions. Get the printable label here.
  3. Place the jar in the pie dish. Add a ribbon, a tea towel, and a simple sprig of boxwood for a seasonal touch.

The joy of a homemade gift

There’s something about giving a hands-on, bake-when-you’re-ready gift that feels so thoughtful. It’s not just the pie—it’s the invitation to slow down, enjoy the process, and fill the kitchen with the scent of cinnamon and apples.

Just a few more Sunday favorites of things I’m loving right now

I know you are inundated with sales these days, so I will keep my favorites brief today!

Paperwhites

Time to plant paperwhites if you want them to bloom by the holidays. I have found that buying quality bulbs really does make a difference. I purchase mine at Terrain. You can buy them in a bag of 10, 20 or 30 bulbs. Read this post for more about planting and gifting paperwhites.

UASHMAMA (20% off sale)

Wood crates on a wall with spices, small bowls, wood bowls, cook books.

I’m a big fan of Uashmama products for storage and entertaining. Some of my favorite things I use from UASHMAMA are the little Lollie Bag Storage Trays. The medium is the perfect size for cocktail napkins. Their sustainably made prodcuts come in many colors and styles. The photo shows the Lollie storage tray and a small basket that holds party picks.

Brodo Bone Broth

Packages of Brodo bone broth nest to two white bowls of stew.

I’ve mentioned Brodo Bone Broth in previous posts, like this one. We have been enjoying drinking a mug every afternoon. Each cup has 10 grams of protein!

We also add it to soups and stews. Brent has been making Chickpea Stew with Orzo and Mustard Greens from NYTimes Cooking on repeat. The recipe calls for two cups of chicken stock and two cups of water, but we substitute bone broth for both, and not only does it taste even better, but it’s so much more nutritious!

We use either chicken or Signature Hearth broth in this recipe, but we love them all. You can get 20% off on your first order. I reccomend starting with the Sampler Box so you can try a variety of flavors.

I talked with my husband and he had me buy it and a separate chain to go with it for my birthday coming in a couple of weeks. It is beautiful and perfect and I will wear it!
