I’m getting ready for the 4th starting with the front door. Last year I used my Sharpie paint pen to write a quick message on my glass front door and it has been all over Pinterest. I wanted to do it again and this time my house has a fresh coat of white paint so I think it looks even better! I took this same design and made a stencil to decorate a pan of brownies.
Using the same idea as the design on the front door I made a stencil. Once I cut the pattern out I realized I could use both the cut out pieces and the stencil for two pans. I simply drew the design onto a piece of paper the same size as a brownie pan and then cut it out using a small scissors with a pointed tip. I baked the brownies in two pans, one a 9 x 9 and the other an 8 x 8 pan, both lined with parchment so that I could easily get them out of the pans without breaking them. I let them cool for about an hour and then set the stencil and the pieces on top of each brownie and simply dusted them with powdered sugar. I used a small mesh strainer and tapped it lightly.
As you can see it’s a very rough design and yet somehow when placed on a pan of brownies and lightly dusted with confectioners sugar, it just turns out. Well, I think so anyway and my son and about seven of his friends devoured them. Although not all of the boys would eat the ice cream I supplied. I find living in Connecticut, we may only be 45 minutes from Yankee Stadium, but there are a lot of Boston fans in this area too!
I love it Annie! The porch looks so inviting and the brownies – you are so creative! very clever!
Thanks Stephanie!
You’ve got me craving brownies, and though I make it a policy not to turn on the oven in the summer, I might have to break it just to give this brownie stencil a try. As always, I LOVE your front porch. Might be the best front entry on the planet. Or at least in my book. 🙂
P.S. How do you remove the Sharpie from the glass?
It’s a water based sharpie so it comes off very easily with window cleaner. I use Sprayway, but I think anything works well.
This is such a nice, elegant change from the old red white and blue!
Love the front door…a perfect way to greet your guests! You always have such lovely ideas!
So cute! on both the door and the brownies!!

So pretty and clever. Your door and home is simple,
elegant, and chic.
Lovely!
Hi, I was wondering where you found your outside wall lights? I love them.. 🙂
Hi Michelle-our house was built in 1900 and they appear to be hand made. I would try Bevelo. They have beautiful brass lanterns.
Love this Door! Where can I buy it?
It’s a very old door. I found a new door at Rings End in Norwalk, CT.
Where did you get the lantern lights from??
Hi Autumn- Our home was built in 1900 and they appear to be very old with no markings. I would try Bevelo Lanterns!
