Let’s talk Houseplants
Houseplants are becoming more popular all the time. I used to have a few small and maybe one good size plant. Once you become slightly obsessed with plants, it’s like you start collecting them. There are all sorts of articles about the benefits of having plants in your home. But for me, it’s about the pure enjoyment of having them fill my spaces in my home and also taking care of them. I like the puttering around on the day that I care for my plants. Sometimes it takes only 15 minutes. But usually, I have a plant that may need re-potting (spring and summer is better for re-planting), or I need to trim it, maybe add a stake and twine to a plant. I love it all! One of my favorite authors and plant experts is Hilton Carter. You can follow on Instagram @Hiltoncarter and his books: Wild at Home and his new release Wild Interiors. (Keep reading about the giveaway) He also does Instagram live segments on Apartment Therapy where he answers your plant questions. I am not an expert on plants, but I do know that I love them and I have sort of figured out which plants do well in my light-filled home and those plants that are great in low-light areas of my home.
The Sill
Plants Make People Happy.
The Sill in New York City is temporarily closed, but they do have an online shop where you can order plants, get a Monthly Subscription Box, and they even offer virtual workshops for as little as $10! I can’t think of a better Mother’s Day Gift. A new plant with a “ceramic message pop” and maybe a gift certificate for an online workshop for mom! Note: Their website indicated that orders must be received by May 3rd for Mother’s Day delivery!

I thought the best way was to show you the difference plants make in each space was to show the same space with and without plants! To me, it’s dramatic. Let me know your thoughts in the comments and sign up for the giveaway!

I love your coffee bar! And I agree that plants add so much to a home! I am no plant expert but I have some in almost every room of our home. I don’t have live plants in the bedroom but I hear they are beneficial there too!
You’ve proven plants bring a room to life, plus I find them to be a nice friendship… I always talk to them as I water and they definitely respond with a healthy glow.
Yes, I recall talking to the plants at Serena and Lily with you!! Good times, good times!!!
infuses a space with color without “color” & that spaces comes ALIVE!
I want all the plants in my house! Ha!
I absolutely love having plants in the house. It’s funny how you can develop an attachment to them. I’m having great luck with maiden hair fern, a huge fish tail palm and 3 orchids that are reblooming after 6 months of careful nurturing. It’s kind of exciting in it’s own way, especially since we’re stuck at home.
Here’s a crazy plant story. I had windowsill 2 violets. One that blooms profusely and one that never blooms. After about a year of no flowers, I was saying to a friend that I might have to throw the non-bloomer away. I was sad because it was healthy otherwise. She told me that her mom always said I needed to talk to it. We laughed as I gently stroked the leaves and said, “Baby, you have to put out a few flowers or I have to toss you and I don’t want to.” Well lo and behold, two weeks later two flower stalks popped up!! Even crazier a different friend was having the same issue with her violet. I told her of my story and she started to talking to hers and yup…it started blooming again too.
Jeanne! I love this story! I’m going to start talking to my plants ever more now after reading this!
Love how plants take a space to a whole new level!
Annie, What a fun post. I agree plants really make a home and I am always shocked that people want fake. They do amazing things for the air quality in your home besides looking cute. I love this shop The Sill! We have nothing cool like that. I will follow Hilton too thank you. I have to order a mister here and a few things. Annie I also ordered a hose you suggested and a pot from Target and I love them! Your house looks so pretty. What is that floral and black china? It’s so cute. xo
