Packing for a Getaway Holiday Weekend
For a quick getaway during the holidays I’m packing very light, but I will have everything I need. The great thing is that every item I’m bringing can be mixed with every piece in my very small suitcase. Here’s a quick list of what I’m packing:
- Black Jeans
- Regular Denim Jeans
- Black Cashmere Turtleneck
- Black Sleeveless Tank
- Gray Cashmere Crew Neck Sweater
- Oversized Alpaca Crew
- Skirt and
- Blouse from Target
- Madewell Leopard Calf-Hair Loafers
- Everlane Day Boots in Bone
- Gucci Brixton Loafers or Sneakers
- Camel Coat
All Black with Bone Boots and Camel Coat
I love wearing all black. The turtleneck is from Everlane and I love it because it has a nice shape and length and I feel put together whenever I wear it. It’s great on its own or as a layering piece. The boots. Let me tell you, I never wear heels. I feel like I’m tall enough at 5’10”, but the Day Boots from Everlane are incredibly comfortable… maybe there’s something to this heel thing because I kind of feel like a boss when I wear them. The first time I wore these boots I wore them all day, walked several miles and at the end of the day, my feet felt great. Madeline has them in Ecru and kept telling me how comfortable they were right out of the box. These boots are made using 100% Italian leather in a factory that has been making boots and shoes since 1977 with 32 employees. No wonder they are so comfortable. My feeling is that if you have to break in a shoe, it probably doesn’t fit properly. The Day Boot comes in seven colors including one called Iron which is sort of a dark gray metallic. I love wearing white jeans after Labor Day…and now I love wearing white boots in the fall/winter!
The Everlane Day Boot
My go to outfit for a travel day or just about anything
This outfit is perfect for a travel day. If it’s really cold I can add a scarf or even a thin vest under the coat. I can swap out loafers for sneakers or throw on black jeans, boots and a silk scarf for dinner. I love this coat for the style and you can’t beat the price. It’s my favorite length and it can be dressed up or down. I recently wore it with a hoodie and jeans for a bike ride in Central Park.
A shimmery skirt, leopard loafers and an oversize sweater is my idea of holiday fashion
I’m not normally a shimmery skirt kind of shopper. I have nothing that resembles anything like this in my closet…maybe ever! It’s just not me…or so I thought! I happened to be taking a spin through Target and noticed this silver skirt and blouse. I even tried it on…at Target. I was not exactly sure how I would wear it, but I threw it into the cart anyway…haha! Once I got it home and on decent hangers, I realized that wearing it with an oversized sweater could sort of tone it down. I think this could be one of those pieces in my wardrobe that I’ll wear for years just at the holidays. And since it’s from Target, it’s less than $70 for both the skirt and blouse!
I tried Dermablend leg make-up and I was amazed by the results. I typically avoid wearing skirts because of my legs and this make-up has changed that!

And that one holiday piece that can be worn anywhere & with everything you already own
A few year ago I bought a tweed coat at J.Crew that I sort of dubbed it has my holiday coat. This year I am wearing a beautiful poncho from J.McLaughlin. It will be my go to piece with white jeans, black jeans & pants, dark and light denim…so basically everything in my closet. My sweet friend Suzanne works at the New Canaan J.McLaughlin store and I love to pop in and do a try-on and visit with Suzanne. Win-win!

Annie I would totally buy that Target skirt! What a sleuth you are. That was a total find. Who wants to spend big money on a skirt that one only wears for a season. I love that you paired it with a sweater (great minds think alike). You look darling in that poncho.
LA CONTESSA says
WELL DONE!
YOU definitely LOOK THE SEASON!
Did I ever tell you I use to wear long skirts with SWEATSHIRTS?!!
THAT is another LOOK YOU COULD ROCK!

HI Elizabeth! What do you mean you used to wear sweatshirts to with long skirts….you are always ahead of your time with fashion…so I don’t doubt it for a second, but I can still see you wearing the look Madeline wore today! A sweatshirt, boots and that same skirt! So wish I could have been at Kim’s with all of you! xoxo

Wow Annie I am crazy about this post and you are a perfect model! We need more fashion from you. I love how you pulled a wardrobe together for a getaway here too. I have to save this. The Target outfit…What a score and super cute with the sweater too. I agree this has to stay in your closet for holidays and evening things!! The camel coat and white bootie with the black jeans is ADORABLE, but I also am nuts about the poncho. We have a J McLaughlin in our town and I have to go now. With the white booties you look so current and chic!! I wish you were here yesterday so I could have had you over. You were missed. Hugs, Kim

Annie, okay, we have to talk about this…I love every outfit on you and you look so great modeling them!! Love that you’re doing this! Such a fun and and well written post. I love that you feel like a boss wearing those gorgeous boots, I feel the same when wearing heels. I think I may have to buy that camel coat.

That coat is such a deal…I mean do I wish it were a Burberry, yes…but I’ve had it since Madeline studied abroad in France and still have it!

Annie, I LOVE this capsule wardrobe! That coat is so classic. I love what you scored at Target and more than that, I love how you styled it. It’s so fun when a piece speaks to us and we don’t know what we’ll do with it. I think it almost always works out to be a favorite piece. I’m definitely going straight for those white boots. Love it all! So fun to be doing this with you guys again. xx

I have been avoiding going to jeans shopping but your post changed something – and I got the vintage jeans. So in love with them. I am eyeing the boots now – but may have been too late with sizes being sold out. Thank you for inspiration !

HI Leena! I’m so glad you like the jeans. I’ve been wearing them on repeat! Have a great day! xo
