Will you be hosting a 4th of July get together this year? I teamed up with Garnet Hill to create a simple breakfast, a casual dinner menu, and a grown-up version of s’mores for dessert. Garnet Hill has beautiful table linens and stoneware dishes that create the perfect table. The colors are a bit more earthy and rustic which is perfect for our laid back Connecticut beach cottage. I’m a guest blogger today on the Garnet Hill blog, Threads, pop over and see more of our 4th of July plans.
Breakfast on the porch to watch the parade
Our coastal community has its own parade with a marching band (all members from one large family), kids on decorated bikes and wagons, vintage tractors, and cars. The front porch is the perfect place to watch. We will serve lavender granola with fresh fruit yogurt and lots of coffee! We are serving it in the Sintra Stoneware bowls and mugs along with enamelware serving bowls and tray.

Moving on to the backyard…we make sure to have plenty of safe BUG OFF for everyone to use!
Rustic colors for a beachy 4th of July in Connecticut
garden flowers and red, white & blue table linens
We used a combination of table linens from Garnet Hill. The linen napkins in Tawny Port/Burgundy and the Celestial/Aqua table runner on white looked perfectly rustic with our garden flower arrangements. We used only what we have growing in the garden and planters. No need to buy flowers when you can just clip from the yard!
S’mores adult style
It’s always fun to serve a dessert that takes you back to childhood, but with a few tweaks that make it a little less messy! That’s exactly what we did to make our s’mores dip. The great thing is that you can use any chocolate chips or chunks, and a handful of mini marshmallows. Oh and of course…a box of graham crackers.
PrintIndividual S’mores
S’mores are messy and sticky..so for a grown up version, we’ve made them in individual Lodge cast iron pans. For some reason, dare I say…they taste even better this way!
- Prep Time: 2 minutes
- Cook Time: 2 minutes
- Total Time: 4-5 minutes
- Yield: 6 - 8 servings 1x
- Category: dessert
Ingredients
- 1/2 bag of chocolate chips or chunks (really anything you have leftover will work just fine)
- 1/2 bag of mini marshmallows
- a box of honey graham crackers
Instructions
- Preheat oven to broil
- Layer about a 1/4 cup of chocolate chips into the bottom of each cast iron pan
- Top generously with mini marshmallows
- Put under the broiler just until the tops of the marshamallows start to brown. Do not walk away, this takes only a minute or two.
- Serve with graham crackers that you’ve quartered using the scored lines that will instantly take you back to kindergarten snack time. All that’s missing is a tiny carton of milk.
- Serve Immediately! Enjoy!
Notes
If you don’t have individual Lodge pans (although I bought mine last year and I’ve used them a dozen times at least), you could use a regualr size Lodge cast iron skillet and serve family style.
These can be made ahead and put under the broiler right before you are ready to serve. It’s the quickest and easiest dessert!
