Okay, so this is not exactly an Advent Wreath, but it’s our version of an advent wreath. We are still keeping an important tradition, but with a new twist. Every year we make a similar version using things we have around the house, plus numbers from the hardware store. I buy the traditional three purple and one pink candle. Growing up I never knew why the pink and purple, but this explains it. Is this one of your holiday traditions? You can see another version we did here.
You can use coffee mugs, candle holders and mailbox numbers from the hardware store. First, cover the candles with potting soil and then with moss. We found the moss on our rock walls, but you could could buy it or cover with rocks or sand.
Thank you Madeline for helping with this project!
Love this idea! I always wondered about the purple candles too, good to finally know the reason. xo
Yes, I just made my first Advent wreath last year (you can see it here if you’re interested: http://mylittlebungalow.blogspot.com/2015/11/making-advent-wreath.html). I really love this tradition. Anything that honors the real meaning of the season is good in my book! I like your numbered coffee mug adaptation of the Advent wreath. Very modern! I include a white candle (the “Christ candle”) in the middle which is lit on Christmas eve and represents the life of Christ that has come into the world. So lovely!
Claudia,
I love yours! I tried to leave a comment, but I was logged in as my teenage son—so did not leave one.
