Avocado Smash on toast consists of only a few ingredients, so the quality of the bread must be amazing. Using Idyllwild Bread really made this a great quick lunch.


  1. 2 thick slices of good bread
  2. 1 large ripe avocado
  3. sea salt
  4. olive oil
  5. lemon
  6. red pepper flakes


  • Scoop out the avocado into a bowl and mash with a fork
  • squeeze a lemon into the bowl
  • add a little sea salt
  • toast the bread
  • spread each slice with half of the avocado mash
  • drizzle with good olive oil and sprinkle with red pepper flakes


I’m not sure when avocado toast became a thing, but I only know how to make it the rustic way. I can’t for the life of me cut an avocado into perfect slices, but either way, I love it. It has simple ingredients and the only tricky part is having a ripe avocado on hand. I can keep bread in the freezer, lemons keep for weeks, and I always have salt, red pepper and olive oil.
